BLURB:

As a guild bartender, I can handle pretty much anything--mages, sorcerers, witches, the occasional demon. But show me anything family-related and I'd rather run for the hills. It doesn't even have to be my family.

So I have no idea why I thought spending the holidays with Aaron's mom and pop was a good idea.

Meeting his famous parents is already terrifying enough, but I've got a bigger problem. Students of his family's renowned mage academy are being attacked on the grounds--and somehow no one has seen a single assailant? Unexplained tracks litter the nearby woods, rumors of forbidden alchemy are circulating the campus...and Ezra has been acting strangely since we arrived.

Something deadly is brewing in the shadow of Sinclair Academy, and the longer we take to uncover it, the more dangerous it becomes. But no matter the risk, we'll protect the students.

And Aaron's parents too, I suppose. If we have to.

REVIEW:

EZRA!!! I love this guy so freaking much! This book was all his, I swear so much else goes on but my heart and all the feels just keeping coming back to this poor guy. Give him some love Marie!

Anywho this book follows our favorite trio of Mage with Tori to Aarons family home and academy. Along with Sin, Tori is mesmerized by the Sinclairs castle, yes its a castle. The students and staff are prudish and Tori must hold back as much as she can so that she doesn't punch a kid in the face. But the snobbishness isn't the only problem, there are beast scaring and attacking people around the castle and when one of their own is threatened Trio and the gang get ready for battle one of their strongest foes.

There was so much I loved about this book, this series is one of my top three favorite paranormal series to date. I love the sass of Tori, the girl power bffness with her and Sin. How much the friendship Aaron, Kai and Eza mean to each other, these guys will do anything to protect strangers but each other they will go through hell and back. Plus those boys adore Tori to pieces, friend goals!! I liked seeing more about how much Aaron has grown, how his family always seems to trigger something in him. The team works together to fight his "demons" and Ezras. But what captured me the most about this book was Ezra, Marie is getting deep into his demon side this time around and also showing the connection he and Tori have. I'm a big shipper for this two, I have wanted them together since the beginning so I'm holding out hope for these two.

The big bads are crazy dangerous and I felt were even scarier that the demons and crazy mages they have fought. I liked the plot twist and the scary moment the group has because, boy the close calls had me cleaning on the my kindle hard. It's all action packed, family drama and friendship goodness. I can't wait for the next one, I need me some more Ezra!

BLURB:

Once upon a time, humankind ruled the world while lycans and vampires lived in secret.
This is no longer that time.

Rae

Blood Day--the culmination of my training. The day I find out my fate.
I will not cry. I will not beg. I will remain calm.
Emotions are for the weak, and I am not weak.
My name is Rae and I will survive this.
But I never expected him to call my name...

Kylan

Someone wants to frame me for immortal insanity? Be my guest, darling.
I'll just pick a fighter as my bait, a consort with a hint of defiance.
And when the culprit attempts to bite, I'll be the one who bites back.
Because no one touches what's mine, including the fiery redhead at my side.

Welcome to Kylan City.
I dare you all to come out and play.

REVIEW:

This was my first introduction to the blood Alliance series and author Lexi C. Foss. The concept was really intriguing to me and a bit scary, which was a nice change from what I've been reading. I really wanted to find a new paranormal romance and I found a great one. Imagine living in a world where humans were ruled by vampires and werewolves, used for what they needed and treated horribly. This was an intense, emotional and steamy story of one woman who wanted to survive and found an ally in an enemy.

Royally Bitten follow Rae who is about to find out where she will be places on Blood Day. Hoping that all her training and high scores earn her a spot to fight for immortality. But her plans change when she catches the eye of one of the royal leaders, Kylan. She knows his reputation for killing his harem and that he's the worst of the worst of the leaders. But as Rae gets pulled into Kylans world she realizes its nothing like she thought and that Kylan is the complete opposite of the stories told about him.

Rae is smart, tough, and determined to not let her new owner Kylan win, she wont let him break her. Rae is definitely stubborn and frankly brave because most of the other royals or leaders would of killed her already for her defiance, but Kylan is actually tired of the way things are and she learns that he's not the only one.

Kylan finds a fighter in Rae someone who will keep him on his toes and someone who might survive whoever is trying to destroy his reputation. He wasn't prepared for her and is constantly challenged and surprised by her.

Overall I loved the world building, even though it was scary and I couldn't imagine the horror of what some of the humans had to go through, it was a nice change from the other paranormal romances i've read where most paranormals are in hiding. The romance was smoking hot, I loved the chemistry between Rae and Kylan, especially the angst. There were a lot of surprises and intense moments where I wasn't sure who the villains were because there are so many. In the end I look forward to reading the first one and continuing the series.

{Review} Silence Fallen by Patricia Briggs

Silence Fallen by Patricia Briggs

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

GENRE: Urban Fantasy
THEME: Werewolves, Vampires, Romance
RECEIVED: NetGalley

BLURB:
Attacked and abducted in her home territory, Mercy finds herself in the clutches of the most powerful vampire in the world, taken as a weapon to use against alpha werewolf Adam and the ruler of the Tri-Cities vampires. In coyote form, Mercy escapes only to find herself without money, without clothing, and alone in the heart of Europe...

Unable to contact Adam and the rest of the pack, Mercy has allies to find and enemies to fight, and she needs to figure out which is which. Ancient powers stir, and Mercy must be her agile best to avoid causing a war between vampires and werewolves, and between werewolves and werewolves. And in the heart of the ancient city of Prague, old ghosts rise...

REVIEW:
Patricia Briggs always knows how to keep me wanting more. The Mercy Thompson series hits number 10 and is the only long running Urban Fantasy that never gets repetitive or boring. I love every minute of seeing how much more her characters have grown and what next villain comes along to try and come between Mercy and her pack and alpha.

Mercy is put in another sticky situation that takes her all the way to Europe and very far away from her mate and pack. Ever since Mercy announced that she and her pack would be a save zone for anyone, they have been targeted. Now taken to Europe she comes face to face with some strange vampires who believe she’s is very powerful. But the head vampire is one scary baddie and she makes her escape or so she thinks. Now alone in Europe with no real connection she is being hunted by his crazy wolf and might find help with another bad wolf.

There was non stop suspense, Mercy’s connection to he mate Adam is cut because of the distance but those two are so strongly connected, nothing can come between them. I loved seeing more of Adams POV, his love for Mercy makes me love him and he always risks so much for her. Adam has to partner up with Stefan, Queen of vamps Marsilla and the powerful witch Elizaveta to get to Europe and take on one powerful vamp.

We get a little more insight into Mercy’s coyote side, her ability to speak to the dead really helps her connect and fight a really powerful creature (not that baddie vamp). I love how her abilities grow a little more each time, I almost feel like her powers are growing and getting ready ffor something big. I say this every time but if you haven’t read this series yet, it’s one that shouldn’t be missed, even the spin offs are fantastic!

FROM THE BOOK

Who am I trying to kid?

I slow down as I near the end.

"HOWARD!!" Xavier yells, pissed off.

I grab onto the chain-link fence and bend over, panting and humiliated. "I can't."

Draik mutters really quietly, "He can't do it," so I know I wasn't meant to hear it. And the thing is, had it been a couple months ago, I wouldn't have been able to. But I did hear it. And it makes me angry.

He. Can't. Do. It. All my life I've been hearing that. My whole fucking life.

A heat launches into me. One I've not felt since that night at Kruglov's, and never before then. I don't have a name for it because it's foreign, but it feels like there is literal fire in my chest as a voice inside my guts says, I can and I will.

The dirty fence clatters behind me as I push off from it, running with gaining speed. My hair starts to tingle, wind whipping though it. The exposed parts of my skin feel cold from the sudden sting of the chilled night air. My muscles come alive, burning and expanding like they're growing with every hit to the sidewalk even though my feet feel separate from me. I let go of my mind and allow my body to show me what it can do. My arms pound back and forth, maintaining my balance. I start to make a sound I've never made.

I hear Xavier say, "That's it," from a faraway place. "He's feeling it."

I make it to the fence, whip around and race back in the other direction, pushing myself to cut however little time that took, in half. My chest feels like it's going to explode in volcanic ash.

I'm pure energy. Possibility. I'm ALIVE.

I run so fast that, unable to stop my velocity, I hit the fence with a loud SLAM.

Falling in a heap on the ground, I begin to laugh.

Draik and Xavier stroll up to loom over me, and I'm still laughing. They've got grins on their faces bigger than I've ever seen.

"You found it," Xavier says.

I pant, "What? What did I find?" smiling wide.

Draik tips his head up. "Courage."

AN INTERESTING BIT ABOUT HOW THIS BOOK CAME ABOUT, by AUTHOR FALEENA HOPKINS

I've written seventeen novels, and six of them are about werewolves. In my books it's real life. The world does not know they exist. But they do. Never did I anticipate writing about a wolf named Howard. But there he was, showing up in Werewolves of Chicago: Curragh (also included in this one download for a limited time, since you really should read it first). Howard was then a scrawny wolf who just wanted to play with the big boys, and who they called upon for help since he's a doctor. Then from out of nowhere he did something so brave that he grew into the wolf he was always meant to be - one like them. All muscle and power. I never planned that. I don't plan plots and never know where a story is going or how it will end, when I begin it. After releasing Curragh's book, fans wanted to know more about this sweet, unassuming and courageous wolf, as did I. Werewolves of Chicago: Howard was born.

{Review} of Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs

Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

GENRE: Urban Fantasy
THEME: Shifters, Werewolves, Fae, Romance
RECEIVED: Publisher

BLURB:

Tensions between the fae and humans are coming to a head. And when coyote shapeshifter Mercy and her Alpha werewolf mate, Adam, are called upon to stop a rampaging troll, they find themselves with something that could be used to make the fae back down and forestall out-and-out war: a human child stolen long ago by the fae.

Defying the most powerful werewolf in the country, the humans, and the fae, Mercy, Adam, and their pack choose to protect the boy no matter what the cost. But who will protect them from a boy who is fire touched?

REVIEW:

Briggs seems to always know what I’m looking for in her Mercy Thompson series, as this urban fantasy is the one that I’ve stuck with from the beginning for a very good reason. The reason? It’s not just the fantastic writing, it’s the characters, they have progressed so much, they have been challenged, heartbroken, loved and lost through the nine books and they just keep getting stronger and better with each one.

Fire Touched continues from with the tension between the fae, but this time the fae puts lives in danger whom mercy and her husbands pack are sworn to protect. After a troll rampages on a bridge, putting human lives in danger, Mercy and her pack risk their lives to stop it. Luckily working together and getting help from old friend Zee and his son Tad, they are able to stop it. But with their reappearance from the fae world, they brought along a young boy who is anything but young and human. Aiden is fire touched and can help the packs newest member control his fire beast. But the fae want Aiden and Mercy makes a oath for protecting those in need, which causes a big stir among the paranormals.

Mercy is her usual bad ass self, devoted to her husband and pack and always wanting to help those in need. But she puts herself in a bit of a pickle by declaring safety for those in need in the paranormal world, which causes the Marrok to cut ties with Adams pack. It also puts a big target on their heads. Mercy has to deal with a lot of fae drama, which brought back zee and Tad whom I love. Zee is a stubborn old fae, and his interaction with Mercy are always classic, it reminds me of the first few books with Mercy working in the shop.

This book is super heavy on the fae war, the pack has to deal with the backlash of Mercy’s declaration, which introduces a ton of new and familiar faes. I loved the Adam and Mercy moments that we did get, especially when Jesse’s friend brings her mother to their house and tries to sell Mercy oils. There is a hilarious moment with an oil that’s suppose to help in the bedroom, of course the whole pack can hear their conversation and Adam thinks its hilarious. Obviously Mercy and Adam don’t need help in the bedroom.

Anyways the main focus is the pack and Mercy protecting Aiden, who was once human but was taken by fae and changed. He has a unique ability with fire. Along the way the meet some interesting Gray Lords and a very powerful female fae who doesn’t want to join her people in their war. I enjoyed the move forward with the fae and I’m super interested to see how the pack does now that they have been separated from the Marrok. If he will take them back or now that the pack as a few non werewolves in it, does this add a new dynamic to the meaning of packs. I cant wait to see what happens next with Mercy. As always I’m never disappointed and wish this book never ended.

Thank you to ACE publishing for sending me a copy to read and review.

{Review} The Truth Spell by Anita Oh

The Truth Spell by Anita Oh
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

GENRE: Young Adult
THEME: Paranormal, Mystery, Werewolves
RECEIVED: Tour

BLURB:

As soon as I stepped onto the grounds of Amaris High, I knew I'd made a big mistake. I could never fit in at such a snobbish school – I was more IT girl than "it girl". But then I saw him.

Sam Spencer. My childhood best friend. But it couldn't be. Sam Spencer had died three years ago, on the night that changed everything. I need to know what happened, why he's suddenly not dead and is hanging out with a bunch of rich kids.

When the school is hit by a truth spell, it seems like the perfect chance to find out what Sam and his creepy new friends are hiding, but the weirder things get, the less I'm sure I want to know. Even for Sam, even for the free food, Amaris High might be more trouble than it's worth.

REVIEW:

I have a weakness for anything involving werewolves, I couldn’t wait to see what author Anita Oh’s take would be on tmy favorite paranormal creature. The Truth Spell is the first in the series and the character introductions were very well done, I was able to connect to each character even if they were rude to the lead Lucy.

The Truth Spell follows Lucy O, Conner who has gotten a scholarship to a high class boarding school. But this is a unique school, where the students are divided by class. The red for the poor, green for the rich and gold for the super wealthy and “special” kids. But Lucy’s first impression with one of the golden kids changes her experience, which should have been good, to terrible. She is bulled by the very much loved Tennyson. After questioning him about seeing her supposedly dead BFF Sam standing near Tennyson, he tries to make her stay at the school miserable and lonely so she’ll leave. But when Lucy catches on to the secret behind to Gold House as well as her best friends reappearance, she gets involved in a casting spell mystery that’s effecting the entire school. Now she must work with the Gold students to help stop the spell as well as help with Sam who is dealing with some complex changes.

Lucy is a teenager that anyone can connect too, she not wealthy but she’s has the support of her family. She wants to do well in school and wont give up even if she’s bullied. I liked her strength and determination to get to the truth. I liked her friendship with her roommate Hannah, she is her number one support even when the Gold students try to cast her out. I also found the relationship with Sam interesting, the readers get glimpses into their past, but there is still so many unanswered questions. Then there is Tennyson, he is a major bully and well loved by the school and student, but feels Lucy is a threat. They have an interesting dynamic, Lucy doesn’t fear him and he I feel is starting to get curious about her now. I cant wait to see what else Lucy gets in the middle of in the next book.

The Gold students are in their own category, Sam and Tennyson both in the Gold house, have a lot of mystery behind them. Of course this means they are not only wealthy but they have a secret that Lucy finds out fairly quickly. They also need Lucy’s help when witchcraft is used to alter the students and teachers into telling the truth.

Overall I really enjoyed this first introduction to Anita Oh and her world of witchcraft and werewolves. I liked the mythology that the readers learn about the werewolves, but I know there is so much more to come. The villain is a big mystery and I’m curious as to what their real intensions are. I usually read books with romance, this one dives deep into friendship but I feel there may be a love triangle coming with Tennyson and Sam involved. Lucy has discovered a lot in her short time at the school, she has a lot of grasp and sometimes I found she accepted everything a little too easily. But I think there is more to Lucy than we know in this book and cant wait to see what happens next.

Read an Excerpt from DESERT WOLF

Heat rolled in waves from the blacktop of the old highway. Around him, the desert sprawled in its painted glory, seemingly melting into the horizon where it kissed the sky. The colors streaked past him as he accelerated, blowing past the old trading posts and bypassing the interstate with its smoother surface and promise of civilization in the distance. If one sought to journey through the decades, the old highway east of Holbrook was the place to start.
Sweat slicked his back beneath the leather jacket and the motorcycle vibrated between his thighs. Clocking over a hundred, he barely noticed the machine’s growl echoing his wolf’s. Cassius Lucera del Alba, Alpha of Sutter Butte squinted to catch sight of the town he sought ahead.
Though town was a generous description for the collection of ramshackle structures—of which a filling station with a decrepit market attached and a lone bar were clearly detailed. Time hadn’t forgotten the town, it had left it in the dust by doing a hundred and sixty and never looked back. If the location had a name, no map detailed it, not even Google. The poor bastards didn’t even have a ghost to call their own.
Though they might when he finished.
He didn’t slow until he reached the main drag, all eighty-five feet of it and parked his bike in front of the bar. A handful of vehicles were scattered amongst the cracked pavement and gravel. Three he recognized, two he didn’t. Like the bar, the cars were in sad shape and far more popular in earlier decades. Killing the engine, he dropped the kickstand and slid off his baby. Road dust coated her paint and chrome. With a stroke of his gloved hand over the seat, he promised her a bath later.
Leaving the bike, he strode toward the building. No one moved outside, but one wolf stood inside the filling station. He was a smart wolf, he’d spotted Cassius, yet didn’t reach for a phone or make any move other than retrieving his newspaper and flipping it open.
Inside, the cool air rushed over his sweaty face like a sweet kiss. The scents of stale beer, body odor, remnants of the blood spilled throughout the years, and fear stained the experience. The population of the bar—easily a dozen wolves though Cassius scented at least four more in the back—glanced up from their places scattered around the room. Three played pool, four others huddled around a card game while the rest sat in various spots including two at the bar drinking. A couple in the corner paused with her hand down his pants. The bartender—a tall, broad wolf with a balding pate and a world-weary expression raised his eyebrows in silent inquiry.
“Beer. Cold.” Cassius said, and the bartender nodded. A moment later, he set a tall bottle of Corona on the weathered bar top. The sides frosted and a hint of vapor escaped the top. Condensation formed almost immediately on the sides, slicking along the glass in rivulets.
Stripping off his fingerless gloves first. Cassius set them on the bar. Next, he peeled off his jacket. The old leather moulded him perfectly after the many years he spent wearing it. Only after setting it on the bar next to his gloves did he peel off three one hundred dollar bills and lay them next to the bottle. The bartender didn’t say a word as he took the bills, tucked them into his pocket then locked his register and exited through the double doors behind the bar.
Leaning against the aged wood, Cassius swept the room with his gaze. “If any of you are still sitting on your asses, disobeying the direct orders I sent out when I finish this beer, I’ll kill you.” He didn’t raise his voice. Shouting accomplished nothing. Yelling indicated the battle was lost before it began.
Chair legs scraping across the floor splintered the silence. The couple in the corner disengaged. The she-wolf grabbed her purse as she stood. Boots striking the floor punctuated her exodus. No sooner did the door slam shut behind her than the four wolves playing cards toss them down, abandoning their game. The men muttered, but they divvied the pot, then bowed their heads to him one at a time before hurrying out.
Tipping the bottle up, he took a long pull of the cold drink. It soothed his parched throat. One of the pool players threw down his stick. One of the wolves tried to stop him with a hand on his arm, but he shook it off. Then like the other wolves before him, he hurried out the door.
From nearly twenty to only ten—behind feet stomped on the stairs followed by another door slamming. Make that eight. One of the upstairs wolves strode into the bar, and stood in the center of it. Surprise filled his scent at the emptiness in the room. The others waited, their attention divided between Cassius and Finch.
Stupid fucking name for a wolf. Another long pull from his beer, and Cassius was three quarters finished. One by one he met the gazes of the wolves around the room. The smarter ones lowered their eyes immediately, the dumbasses fought to hold his gaze—even Finch.
Focusing on him last, Cassius studied him. Fresh beads of sweat began to trickle along Finch’s cheeks. The wolf swore, then stomped out and slammed the door with enough force, one of the hinges cracked.
Then there were seven.

About Heather Long:

National bestselling author, Heather Long, likes long walks in the park, science fiction, superheroes, Marines, and men who aren’t douche bags. Her books are filled with heroes and heroines tangled in romance as hot as Texas summertime. From paranormal historical westerns to contemporary military romance, Heather might switch genres, but one thing is true in all of her stories—her characters drive the books. When she’s not wrangling her menagerie of animals, she devotes her time to family and friends she considers family. She believes if you like your heroes so real you could lick the grit off their chest, and your heroines so likable, you’re sure you’ve been friends with women just like them, you’ll enjoy her worlds as much as she does.
