The Bribe (Calamity Montana #1)
BLURB:
Duke Evans didn’t expect to interrupt a beautiful woman in a staring contest with a bison on his favorite hiking trail. He also didn’t expect to see her again after rescuing her from the surly beast. As the sheriff in Calamity, Montana, he’s had his fair share of surprises but none as pleasant as pulling over a shiny black car and finding his mysterious hiking companion behind the wheel.
Only, she lied to Duke. She gave him a name as fake as her hair color. According to her driver’s license, her real name is Lucy Ross, the famous country music singer whose sudden disappearance has been a hot topic in the media over the past two weeks.
He’s not sure why Lucy lied about her identity or why she’s in Calamity. And she’s not talking. Instead, she offers him a bribe to keep her secret. But Duke doesn’t want her money. He wants to know why this woman is on the run. And as long as the star shines on his badge, he’s going to find out.
REVIEW:
The Bribe is the first book in the Calamity Montana series and author Willa Nash aka the wonderful author Devney Perry. I devour anything written by Devney Perry and her stories always have beautifully written characters, small towns, steamy romance and suspense. This story had all those fantastic tidbits and introduced a new small town. The story follows Lucy or right now shes known as Jade. She moves into a small town Calamity to hide away from her famous life that has turned upside down. Lucy is a famous singer who has a stalker that has turned insanely dangerous, she wants out from under her studio and from the people that control her brand. She meets the towns local sheriff on a hike with her best friend and sparks fly. The come face to face again when she is speeding into her new town. Duke is instantly drawn to Lucy and can see she is hiding something for a reason, thus when she bribes him into keeping her identity a secret they start quite an interesting relationship.
This was a great introduction to Calamity and the characters of this new series. Lucy and Duke are amazing together, their connection maybe instant but they both have something special to add into their lives. Duke is very protective where Lucy loves the simplicity and big heart of Dukes life. I adored them together.
The suspense of the story and mystery was woven in nicely. I was constantly guessing who it could be and of course many pieces connected to something a bit bigger than the reader even knew. The best part of the story was also Lucy's relationship with her best friend Everly. They are hilarious together and I'm excited to see where her story takes her especially after the introduction to Hux. This is romance series is on the top of my list for this year and I cant wait for the next book.
