This was such a great story and great introduction for me to Lauren Layne. I love the switch where normally it would be the woman getting a "make over" to the male lead. The characters were all wonderful, Layne's writing style really took me into this world of New York's wealthy and how a little change in routine can make a big difference.Made in Manhattan follows Violet, who is asked by her grandmother friend, whom she also considers grandmother, to help her newly found grandson Cain Stone fit into the family lifestyle and company. Violet and Cain clash immediately, where Cain is rugged and lived a life of hard work with his hands, Violet is trying to get him to fit into the stuffy wealthy world of corporate high society. Both start to see the good in each of their worlds and realize maybe they needed this new "awakening" in their lives, maybe they needed this change.
Violet at the beginning I almost felt sorry for her, she is stuffed into this little box on how she should be and act and has never seen what its like to let loose. Her growth is wonderful and I adored her relationship with Edith and her best friend, it brought out humor and just how sweet Violet is. Cain is not happy when hes introduced to his new family life, he has a life in Louisiana and now these rich people are trying to change him for what they think is better. But his anger starts to melt with every interaction with Violet, he's starts to see her and see the her that others don't.
In the end this was a wonderful story about opposites attract, growth and taking the leap for change. I loved all the characters , banter, a steamy romantic moments. I look forward to reading more from Lauren Layne.
