BLURB:
He’s thirty-eight. I’m twenty-three. He speaks Spanish. I speak English. He lives in Spain. I live in Canada. He dresses in thousand-dollar suits. I’m covered in tattoos. He’s married and has a five-year old daughter. I’m single and can’t commit to anyone or anything.

Until now.Because when they say you can’t choose who you fall in love with, boy ain’t that the f*#king truth.

To a restless dreamer like Vera Miles, it sounded like the experience of a lifetime. Instead of spending her summer interning for her astronomy major, she would fly to Spain where she’d spend a few weeks teaching conversational English to businessmen and women, all while enjoying free room and board at an isolated resort. But while Vera expected to get a tan, meet new people and stuff herself with wine and paella, she never expected to fall in love.

Mateo Casalles is unlike anyone Vera has ever known, let alone anyone she’s usually attracted to. While Vera is a pierced and tatted free spirit with a love for music and freedom, Mateo is a successful businessman from Madrid, all sharp suits and cocky Latino charm. Yet, as the weeks go on, the two grow increasingly close and their relationship changes from purely platonic to something…more.

Something that makes Vera feel alive for the first time. Something that can never, ever be. Or so she thinks.

REVIEW:

Karina Halle’s novels are always on my to read a.s.a.p. list every time any are released. I was surprised and super excited when I heard about Love, In English and that it was a deep romance story and not horror. As a big fan of EIT, I couldn’t wait to step outside of horror and step into some steamy romance, which is exactly what I did. Halle has never disappointed me. I have to say this story and the writing is Halle at the top of her game, she created fantastic characters, emotion, all along with her wonderful writing that was top notch.

Love, In English follows Vera Miles who decided to take a leap and spend the summer interning toward her astronomy major in Spain. She was excited to assist with English and have conversations with businessmen and women who are learning the language. But what she doesn’t expect is along with meeting new people, she meets a man who changes everything. Mateo Casalles is a successful businessman as well as former sports star; he shares an undeniable connection with Vera that they try not to show. But it’s difficult to resist something that feels so right and with Mateo married and Vera going back to the US they must decide if it’s worth the risk.

Vera is a rebel, but a smart one, she loves Astronomy and has deep love music and expressing herself. She is also the very opposite of Mateo, the man she is trying not to fall for. It was interesting watching the slow but very sweet development of friendship between Mateo and Vera, I liked that they talked and learned from each other and didn’t just jump into anything. I was of course worried from the start about Vera doing something that would eventually break her heart, but sometimes love is worth the risk. Vera is a great character, she is flawed and her mistakes cause her heartbreak, but she knows what will make her happy. Her family is slightly focused on and I was shocked by her mother and sister, they were terrible overall and didn’t try to understand Vera. But she has a brother who rocks and is her constant.

Mateo is a man whom you can tell misses his life feeling the rush of his sport, but his business is something he needs to focus on now. He also has a daughter whom he adores and would do anything and everything for, along with a wife who he hasn’t felt a connection for, for a long time. I had no idea how Vera and Mateo’s story was going to work, someone was going to get hurt, especially with him being married. I was shocked with the outcome and there were so many emotions and mistakes from both Mateo and Vera. There would never be an easy way to handle what happens but Halle’s writing eases the story along perfectly by making you feel the love and the hope that both characters are looking for.

Overall this was a romance I was looking for, so different from what I’ve read, since there are so many reason this romance shouldn’t happen. But nonetheless there were tons of wonderful secondary characters that bring to life a summer of passion, romances, secrets and heartbreak. I look forward to more romance stories from Karina Halle, her writing really captured something special in this book.

RECOMMENDATION:

This is a new adult romance story with some mature content meant for readers 18+. Fans of the Sea Breeze series by Abbi Glines and Wait for You by J. Lynn will love, Love, In English by Karina Halle.
