GENRE: Romance

BLURB:
Book #2 of the erotic This Man trilogy

Jesse Ward drowned her with his intensity and blindsided her with his passion, but he kept her away from his dark secrets and broken soul. Leaving him was the only way Ava O'Shea could survive. She should have known that Jesse Ward is impossible to escape--and now he's back in her life, determined to remind her of the sensual pleasures they had shared. Ava is equally determined to get at the truth beneath this man's steely exterior. That means letting herself get close to the Lord of the Manor once more. And it's exactly where Jesse wants her--within touching distance...

REVIEW:

This is not a series for the weak hearted; your heart will be beating fast from all the intense romance between Ava and Jesse. Malpas is an author who knows how to make her readers love her damaged playboy, even with his odd habits and bad choices you’ll root for him to win Ava back.

Beneath This Man follows Ava, who is having a hard time after learning about Jesse Wards dark secret. His “Manor” isn’t a normal Manor and Ava, who was blindsided by his dominant romantic persona, couldn’t believe she missed the signs. But Jesse won’t let her leave him without a fight and he’ll do anything to prove that his work won’t affect their relationship.

Ava is a complex character, many would think it was Jesse, but Ava is very indecisive and doesn’t seem to understand the man she is with. Jesse is an all or nothing guy, you have to accept him with all the broken pieces attached. Ava knows this but has a hard time realizing that leaving him constantly is tormenting him. However I do get why she leaves him at many points, because I would of done the same but I’d also never come back. In the end she knows that he cares for her more than anything and he will try and step away from his weakness to show her he can be stronger for her.

Jesse is a broken man; there are so many sides to his character that it will have the reader unsure what he’s going to do next. He is dominant, passionate, protective, business minded and obsessive. It’s interesting to see which route he’s going to take, and doesn’t seem to learn from his mistakes until Ava gives him something to really think about. But overall this guy loves Ava and I can tell will devote his heart and soul to her no matter what.

Overall this was much more intense than This Man, it has some heavy scenes with a lot of aggressive and sexual moments that will have the reader holding their breath. There is also a major turn for Kate and Sam, I like their side story even though Kate’s personality becomes a little annoying at times. In the end I’m hoping for some growth between Jesse and Ava and that maturity and insaneness when it comes to certain things will simmer down and they can have a “real” relationship. I look forward to the conclusion of this series in the final book.

RECOMMENDATION:

This is a new adult novel that is suited for mature readers due to sexual content and discussions on drugs and alcohol. Fans of Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire and Before Jamaica Lane by Samantha Young will enjoy Escape In You by Rachel Schurig.
