As a Graphic Designer I have a fondness for beautiful art and would like to one day design covers myself. I know many readers are attracted to a lot of books because of their covers. I know I for one even though I try my best to look beyond the cover can't resist a big with amazing art. I decided that every Sunday I'm going to promote a book cover artist or a book cover that I like and why.

This Week: Cover for the Study Series by Maria V Snyder

This weeks cover artist is a bundle of people Art Direction: Erin Craig

Design & illustration: Tania Pery Photography: Regina Garcia: I searched for their sites and found nothing....

I loved the collaborative work of these great artist for this series, not only because its one of my top 5 favorite series of all time but because they really show the feel of each book theme.

I chose their work because I loved the mystery of the character Yelena, if you haven't read the series its a must! I think they did a fantastic job in bringing out her character in these covers without giving us a face. It lets us picture her how we want her to look. Her character goes through a lot in each book and these are the three journeys she takes to discover who she is and what abilities she carries. I liked the layout and textures used, each has elegance and beauty that represents the world Maria created.

This Week: Cover for the Allie Beckstrom Series by Devon Monk

This weeks cover artist is my number one favorite : Larry Rostant 

Larry Rostant is one of the most sough after fantasy and historical cover artist of the moment, and even if his work is a manipulation of photos, it's done with taste and in a really effective way.

I chose his work for Devon Monks Allie Beckstrom Series. I'm currently reading the latest of her books and I always seems to like the consistency of style in each new book. Each one always has an interesting symbol that is represented in the story. The tattoos on the character Allie I feel are really done well on the model almost looking like there actually on her and not done digitally. I always like when an artist is able to use a live model and not make it look cheesy.  Also the color use is beautiful, setting the mood for whats to come in the story, it gives a tone or a bit of spoiler in what to expect. Their not most absolute favorite covers but I really enjoy them. Plus I LOVE the series :)

I decided that every Sunday I'm going to promote a book cover artist that I like and his/her work and why.

This weeks cover artist is my number one favorite : Dan Dos Santos

Dan Dos Santos does work for many book companies such as Random House, Tor Books, Scholastic Books, and Penguin. Plus one of my favorite comic book companies DC Comics.

I chose his work for Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series. I loved the realist style and his portrayal of what he thought Briggs Mercy should look like. If you haven't read the series Mercy is native American and a shifter who turns into a coyote. She is also a mechanic and apart of a pack of werewolves. My favorite part is how Santos really got into great detail in her tattoos which are described a lot in the books. No words are really needed to describe her because thats what I've always thought she looked like.
