The Bully by Willa Nash is now live!
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
BLURB:
When her archnemesis dares to show his face one Saturday morning, declaring he is moving there too, she vows to make his life a misery. The town isn't big enough for the both of them and besides . . .
She was here first.
Cal has been a thorn in her side since high school. He might have bullied her back then, but she's not a modest teenager anymore and has learned a few plays of her own. If all goes to plan, she'll run the former pro quarterback out of town within a month.
There's only one problem. Cal has the same plan. He wants Calamity bad enough to pull out all the stops. And after one kiss, she realizes that he doesn't play fair.
REVIEW:
I love the Calamity Montana series and after book three I was super excited to dig into Cal and Nellies story after their angsty but massive spark connection they showed. This book broke my heart a little, Cal was a big teddy bear but showed everyone he wasnt close with a fake version of himself. So his background and story won me over. The Bully follows Cal a newly retired NFL play who decides to move to Calamity to be close with his best friend Pierce and start his retirement in peace. He's not on who like being the center of attention and is known for having a harsh persona, but everyone who is close to him knows he has a big heart. Since they were young Nellie and Cal have clashed for mostly misunderstanding and immature kid things. So when Cal moves to town Nellie isnt happy and will do anything to get him to leave. When Cal gets ahold of Nellie's old diary he sees the true meaning on why they are so disconnected. Can these two ever mend the hurt that they have inflicted upon her, or will one need to move out of town.
Cal was my favorite in the story, he was misunderstood by everyone that he wasnt close with. He had the biggest heart and kept this fake person to keep people away. He is a simple person, doesnt need to flashiness that the world expects of him because he's wealthy and comes from a wealthy family. He is not close with his father whom he despises with a passion. As for his relationship with Nellie its complicated to the max, they have known each other since they were kids and a chain reaction causes them to have an angsty almost hateful relationship. Nellie was the tough one for me, she puts Cal in a box and doesnt really know him but thinks she does. I was angry with her in some incidences because she is just plain cruel, even though I get why she is, I felt her actions were extreme.
In the end I loved how a diary was what helps Cal learn from his mistakes and tries to find a way with Nellie. This is a angsty but steamy story and I love how the town is incorporated in their journey. I can't wait to see who is next in this series.
