BLURB:

It's not all K-dramas and happily ever afters.

Intern with Korea's number one record label? Yes, please.
Find out there's a huge scandal I need to help "manage"... not so much.
Add in the fact that I don't recognize the "superstars" of the label and think they're interns...
And my dream job quickly becomes more of a nightmare.

But I'm in Seoul, the one place that is beginning to feel more and more like home...
Except it isn't home, and the drama surrounding the biggest K-pop group in the world, SWT, is consuming my every moment.
Spoiler alert. They hate me.
Everything I do is wrong: wrong clothes, wrong honorifics, wrong manners.
Till the leader of SWT takes pity on me.
But pity is dangerous when it comes from someone as beautiful as him.

Every SWT member is gorgeous, perfect, and cultivated to be an idol... lethal to a girl's heart.
And sanity.
But fame plus a perfect face and voice don't equal an easy life. As their comeback nears, the stakes rise higher.
Suicide watch...
Angry fans...
Threats...

All I want to do is survive.
But the price for survival might mean losing my heart.
And like a character in a K-drama, I'm not sure if there will be an actual happily ever after...
Or simply a lesson learned.

REVIEW:

This book was really special to me because its a little like my life and will be my child's life. My husband is Korean born and raised in Korea, my kiddo is a beautiful mix of both of us and we get told a lot, looks like a future k-pop star. We watch k-drama's and love k-pop in our house and I already knew the harsh reality that the stars live in because its tough and draining. This story goes deep into the work of being a k-pop star aka idol and shows the stress, the love, the harsh side of what it means.

My Summer in Seoul follows Grace, an American Korean who takes the opportunity she need to get her foot in the door to the music industry, however ins in Korea and nothing like how Hollywood works. Grace is thrust straight into being an intern for the extremely popular group SWT, she herself doesn't know who they are, why they need her to keep them from leaving their penthouse and why social media is so important to them and their image. She has to deal with fans, the good and the bad, the stress of watching this group barley have a moment to themselves as well as feel like she has to save them every moment. Hollywood is nothing compare to this.

Dyken does a fantastic job describing how things are done for the idols in Korea, its such a polar opposite from Hollywood that you would almost believe this isn't true, but it totally is. With family in Korea I can say for a fact that I knew a lot of this already but it breaks my heart to the truth of how tough the music and film industry is in another country. The sacrifices, blood, sweat and tears for something that these stars love so dearly.

Grace is a fantastic character, her dedication to trying to understand a whole new world and how to navigate it has the readers connect so easily with her, She has a big heart and wants to do the best job she can all the while helping these guys who just want to make it and do their passion in music.

SWT is a group of guys in a k-pop band, Rae, Jay, Kai, Lucas and the adorable Sookie. They run Grace through the ringer at first, especially since Grace doesnt speak Korean. They have a comeback performance coming up and a sandal with one of their own Lucas that is through them through a tough and angry crowd. Each guy has their own ups and downs and I adored each of them, their personalities the sacrifices they have made to get where they are, each need a huge hug and lots of yummy food.

In the end this was a fantastically written story and as a k-pop fan and mother to a Korean American I loved this book so much for its realities and finally a book with Korean romance!
