REVIEW:
After reading and loving Bethany-Kris' past mafia romances, I was excited to give one of her stories a try in audio. I love the world she has created, it's dark in the criminal world side, but it also it about family, love and being comfortable with the life of a family in the mob.Captivated follows Liliana Marcello, she is the Marcello principessa, she is cherish and loved, and mostly kept out of the family business. But she isn't blind to the fact of what her family does, her father, her brothers and the people she's surrounded by and lives the life of Cosa Nostra family. She meets Joe Rossi a member of the Chicago Cosa Nostra, she is captivated by him and they have this connection. But Joe is closed up about why he's there, even though its obvious he's working on something with her family. But soon Joe realizes as he too figures out why his job of taking down two powerful people is more than what meets the eye and is also connected to Liliana.
Bethany-Kris is a master at writing mafia stories, each couple I have adored. They live a dangerous life and each have flaws but people who love them. Also each story, like this one show couple or characters from the past books so it always feels like your reading a continuous book. The romance as always is sexy and Joe is all alpha and knows how to make Liliana feel like a queen. Joe is complex, he is a made man, also known as The Shadow, like a hitman, he can slip in and out of the shadows and get the job down without notice. When Liliana's father hire's him, they want him for that specific reason.
The audio narration by Daniel James Lewis fit well with Joe's character, his slight accent mixed well with the mafia tone that I would look for. I couldn't quite put my finger on the accent but it worked for this story line. By the end of the book I felt Joe with Lewis' voice, he really brought him to life. There were a couple of words here and there that were pronounced strangely, but it didn't effect negatively on the story. I usually prefer a duo narration when it comes to romance books so that I can really separate the characters, so I do wish there were two narrators for this type of story.
In the end this was a great listen, I enjoyed the story and really got sucked into the world with Lewis' narration.
