Don't forget to check out my review of Suddenly Royal

Why I chose to work with Raptors, by Samantha, Duchess of Rousseau
After all of the appearances I’ve had to make lately—tea parties, interviews—I’m very excited to have a chance to talk about raptors. I miss working with them every day, so it’s nice to be able to sit down about something I love. You wanted to know why I decided to work with raptors, right? Well, in High School, we had to perform community service before graduating. I didn’t want to answer phones or change bedpans, so I decided to give the raptor rehab a shot.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I figured there would be some scruffy guy in charge, but boy was I surprised. The owner is roughly as tall my shoulder and the sweetest, most dedicated woman I’ve ever met. Sally taught me a lot about birds and let me work hands on with them. Her love for these birds was contagious. And I was instantly infected.

It wasn’t all cage cleaning and feedings. Most of the birds we got at the rehab center had been injured or were sick. Some of them had broken wings, legs, or beaks. We even had a few that had been shot. People would just drop these birds off and leave, but we would spend weeks and months nursing them back to health.

It was tough work. You don’t get to take days off when you’re working with raptors. They have to eat every day, after all. By the time I got home each day I would be exhausted, covered in bird shi—um, poo, and sometimes sporting scratches or puncture wounds. Remember kids, those talons are dangerous. There were many days I’d go home and cry because we’d lost a bird. But the release days? Those always made it worthwhile. There’s magic in a birds flight. After being cooped up and restrained, you can almost feel their joy as they take to the sky. That moment, when they spread their wings and leave, is why I work with raptors. It’s intoxicating. That beautiful creature came to us broken or bruised and we coaxed it back to health.

SUDDENLY ROYAL Synopsis:
Samantha Rousseau is used to getting her hands dirty. Working toward a master’s degree in wildlife biology while helping take care of her sick father, she has no time for celebrity gossip, designer clothes, or lazy vacations. So when a duchess from the small country of Lilaria invites her to dinner, Samantha assumes it’s to discuss a donation for the program. The truth will change the course of her life in ways she never dreamed.

Alex D’Lynsal is trying to keep his name clean. As crown prince of Lilaria, he’s had his share of scandalous headlines, but the latest pictures have sent him packing to America and forced him to swear off women—especially women in the public eye. That is, until he meets Samantha Rousseau. She’s stubborn, feisty, and incredibly sexy. Not to mention heiress to an estate in his country, which makes her everyone’s front-page news.

While Sam tries to navigate the new world of politics and wealth, she will also have to dodge her growing feelings for Alex. Giving in to them means more than just falling in love; it would mean accepting the weight of an entire country on her shoulders.

Author Bio:
Nichole Chase is a daydreamer. No, really, just ask any of the math teachers that had the misfortune of seeing her name appear on their class schedule.
For years she has had story lines and characters begging for attention, but she resolutely pushed them aside to focus on more normal (read, boring) jobs.

Well, no longer! She is currently heeding the voices in her head and frantically writing their stories. Ms. Chase is the author of the Dark Betrayal Trilogy, Flukes, and Suddenly Royal (including several short stories).

Nichole resides in South Georgia with her husband, energetic daughter, dog, tortoise, and two cats. When not devouring novels by the dozens, you may find her writing, painting, crafting, or chasing her daughter around the house while making monster noises.
