Today on Seeing Night Reviews we have the fabulous Shawntelle Madison who is here to talk about her latest novel Coveted.

Check out my 4 out of 5 star review: Coveted by Shawntelle Madison
Supernatural Therapy
After two years of writing, editing, and copyediting, Coveted is out into the big world. I'm so excited for you to meet Natalya. If you haven't heard of my book, it's a paranormal romance about a werewolf who hoards holiday trinkets. Her former lover returns after five years to save the pack that has ostracized her. Nat must face not only the vicious Long Island werewolf pack, but she must face the man who suddenly disappeared from her life. They passion between is still heated.

Today, I wanted to talk about one of the most fun aspects of the book: Natalya's supernatural therapy group. As Coveted progresses Nat makes an important decision to improve her life. Part of that process is to attend group therapy. This was where I got to have a ball. With all the possible mythological creatures out there, where could I have the most fun, yet develop three dimensional personalities for my pages? My first character that came to mind was my mermaid. I love mermaids! They are magical and beautiful creatures. But what would happen if one needed to attended therapy--if she was afraid of the ocean? That was how Heidi was born. The next fun character I'd created was my poor succubus who can't get a man to suck his soul dry. (The poor thing.) After that I have a dwarf who looks like an underwear model. Imagine a hot guy who looks like Brad Pitt, but can’t seem to connect with his dwarf counterparts. There are even more group therapy attendees, but I’ll save them for the book.

So who would be an ideal doctor to lead group therapy for this ragtag bunch? How about a psychologist who is a white wizard. A healer by trade? What if he could do magic to assist his patients yet he still followed treatment plans that most physicians use? Wouldn’t you want to peek in on the conversations for a therapy group of supernatural creatures?

All these characters create a zany cast, but these outcasts create a solid base of support for Nat. They understand and can relate to her hoarding habit. They become her friends when she doesn't have any.

I love large casts. I latch onto to them and they enrich my experience. I want my mermaid to step back into the ocean. I want my Natalya to fixate less on her compulsive behaviors. I want the succubus...well I want her to be happy but not stalk men. ;)

Nat's best friend and partner-in-crime, Abby is a werewolf with issues of her own: she feels compelled overeat. It's not bulimia or anything of that nature. She just feels comfort in a bag of chips. (Who doesn't? I have a happy day with some Doritos.) Thanks to being a werewolf though, she doesn't experience the consequences us poor humans face. But in the end, Abby wants to feel normal too, just like everyone else.

So, now that I’ve introduced Nat's therapy group as well as her friend Abby, who would you want to meet? The mermaid? Would you want to read about a vampire who's afraid of blood? A unicorn with an inferiority complex since its missing its horn? What supernatural creature would you like to see attend group therapy for fun?

Thank you so much for visiting Shawntelle and for everyone who hasn't picked up a copy of Coveted, you should definitely put this one on your must read list! I'm also giving away one copy of Coveted thanks to Shawntelle.

  1. The paranormal therapy group calls to mind Breathers by S. G. Browne, which was hilarious. I like it. Sounds kooky and humorous.

  2. I am so excited to read Shawntelle's book! Too funny with the Therapy group but it's something every form of being would need. Whether you are a human, a werewolf, or a mermaid. :)

  4. I love the Supernatural therapy! Everyone has their "issues", so why not them too. Haha! I love the Vampire who's afraid of blood (well I actually want to read about all of those characters). This book sounds great!

  5. Sounds like it would be a very interesting book. I bet it was difficult keeping it all straight while writing it!

  6. Yes, the mermaid! I would love to read her story.

The only other paranormal therapy group I have read about is a YA book: THE REFORMED VAMPIRE SUPPORT GROUP by Catherine Jinks (although there's a werewolf in the story, too).

  7. I think having a supernatural therapy group sounds like a lot of fun. I can only imagine the kind of problems a supernatural creature would have to talk about in therapy. I can't wait to read Coveted.
