Today on SNR please welcome author J.A. Redmerski author of The Mayfair Moon! She is also giving away 1 copy of her book to one lucky follower!
SNR:
Can you tell us a little bit in your own words about The Mayfair Moon?
SNR:
What attracted you to writing a novel with werewolves?
JR:
The Mayfair Moon is a YA Paranormal Romance with werewolves as the focus.
The
blurb:
After a nightmarish encounter with a werewolf,
seventeen-year-old Adria Dawson loses her sister, but gains the love of a
mysterious young man and his legendary family.
Strange and tragic things begin to happen in the small town
of Hallowell, Maine: residents come down with an unexplainable ‘illness’ and
some disappear. In the midst of everything, Isaac Mayfair is adamant about
keeping Adria safe, even from her sister whom he has warned her to stay away
from.
As unspeakable secrets unfold all around Adria, impossible
choices become hers to bear. Ultimately, no matter what path she takes, her
life and the lives of those she loves will be in peril. As she learns about the
werewolf world she also learns why her place in it will change the destinies of
many.
SNR:
What type of research did you have to do for this type of storyline or what
inspired you?
JR:
I did a lot of research on the places I used in the book such as Athens,
Georgia and areas in southern Maine, but I also had to learn more about Serbia
and the Balkan Mountains.
SNR:
What was your favorite experience in writing this book?
JR:
This is my first YA novel – I’ve written several adult novels – and I think the
experience of writing a teenage character’s perspective was enjoyable.
JR:
Unlike most YA novels on the market today, the werewolves in TMM are
traditional as opposed to shape-shifters that can turn into wolves. I’ve always
been a huge fan of traditional werewolves as depicted in films like The Howling, Dog Soldiers and Underworld
and when I couldn’t find any YA books out there with werewolves like these, I
decided to write my own.
SNR:
Do you have any interesting quirks when writing? Ex. Listening to certain music
for inspiration, watching television, writing outside, etc.
JR:
Well, I wouldn’t say any of my methods are interesting, but I do have to write
in complete quiet and have a Starbucks Iced Latte! I also generally prefer to
write in the morning. Anytime I try to at night, I get absolutely nowhere.
SNR:
Who are some of your favorite writers?
JR:
I love, love, Neil Gaiman, J.K. Rowling, Anne Rice and Carrie Ryan.
SNR:
If you could be any one of your characters who would it be and why?
JR:
Hmmm, I think I would like to be Daisy Mayfair. She’s already powerful enough
she doesn’t have to worry about the dangers of being ‘new’ and she has an
English accent!
SNR:
Can you tell us what you’re working on next?
JR:
Book Two in the Darkwoods Trilogy, KINDRED, is currently in the works, but I’ll
be releasing my not-so-young-adult novel, DIRTY EDEN, by the end of this month
or the first of March.

Sounds like a great one, would love a copy!
ReplyDeleteI've also noticed not many traditional werewolves around and appreciate this. There are more shape-shifters around.
