{Author Interview} with Nana Malone of the Reluctant Protector

Today on SNR we have a author Nana Malone whom I interview about her latest Paranormal Romance Reluctant Protector, the first in the series.

SNR: Can you tell us a little bit in your own words about Reluctant Protector?
NM: For five years, Cassie Reeser has been her brother’s personal lab rat. Peter’s experiments have made her a stronger, faster, better human. And she’s not the only one.  For five years, escape has eluded her. Until now. When she finds out he plans to sell her as a human weapon she knows it’s now or never. To make her escape she’ll sacrifice family bonds and leave behind the one person who’s ever helped her. Cassie’s learned to shrink from kindness and to never trust anyone. She knows the day Peter finally captures her will be the day she dies. To elude her brother and save the others, she’ll have to risk her body and her heart. What she doesn't expect is a chance at a normal life.

Seth Adams is used to sifting through lies to find the truth. As a former war correspondent he knows what evils lurk in the world. When he finds Cassie hiding out in his car trunk, her story sounds like a fantastical dream. But, before long, he witnesses firsthand what she’s talking about when they’re attacked by a group of Peter’s soldiers. As a result, he goes through his own transformation into a super human and realizes the extent of what Cassie is running from. Cassie might not think she needs his protection, but he’ll die before he lets her brother have her back.

SNR: What type of research did you have to do for this type of storyline or what inspired you?
NM: I got the idea as I was watching reruns of Heroes and was gearing up for the start of Alphas on the SyFy channel.  Then I thought, why not a Superhero Romance? I took  little road trip with my husband on our last trip to Florida to research the area.

SNR: Do you have any interesting quirks when writing? Ex. Listening to certain music for inspiration, watching television, writing outside, etc.
NM: Well, I write where I can in small chunks of time.  My husband thinks it’s weird.  I’ll write a hundred words here, five hundred words there.  It’s never consistent.

SNR: What was your favorite experience in writing this book?
NM: The thrill of writing action scenes and how they played out in my head.  I normally write contemporary romance so this was a diversion. But I discovered I love the action stuff.

SNR: How would you define Cassie’s relationship with her brother Peter?
NM: Contentious.  Lol.  She remembers loving her brother once, but after the monster he’s become and the betrayal of that love, all she wants is to be free of him.  Too bad he’s not going to let her go too easily.

SNR: Do you have a favorite scene with Cassie and Seth you could tell us about without spoiling too much?
NM: Oh gosh, I love them all.  Their meet.  It’s more than just a cute meet to me.  That’s essentially how I met my husband.  I also love their exchange when they first run into Trackers.  It’s snarky and funny and shows Cassie’s sassy side.

SNR: Who are some of your favorite writers?
NM: I can only pick two?  That’s cruel.  Well, always Harper Lee, and currently JR Ward.  I need more BDB!

SNR: If you could be any one of your characters who would it be and why?
NM: Ooh Cassie for sure!  Superpowers, are you kidding me?

SNR: Can you tell us what your working on next?
NM: I’ve got the sequel to Reluctant Protector in the works.  So there will be more Cassie and Seth and some fresh faces too.  And this spring, I’m releasing a sexy contemporary romance called, Sexy in Stilettos.  I’m also a big fan of the main character, Jaya, in that one. She is probably the most like me.
