I have the great pleasure of welcoming Author L.K. Rigel to Seeing Night Reviews.

SNR: Thank you for visiting Seeing Night Reviews, I’m happy to be apart of the Bookish Snob Tours for Bleeder.
LKR: Thank you so much for having me!

SNR: For those who haven’t read Bleeder yet, can you tell us in your own words a little bit about Bleeder #3 in your Apocalypto?
LKR: Bleeder is set a few generations after the first two books. The new realities of the postapocalyptic world have set in, and life has become routine and seems normal to the people in it. The life of a chalice – a woman who bears natural children – has become highly ritualized and rule-bound, if pampered.   Still, the women of Red City have no problem expressing their individuality.

SNR: What is different about Bleeder than the first two novellas in the series? Is it the romance?
LKR: Definitely the romance. Mallory and Edmund’s love develops over a ten-year period. They try to fight it, as they are both creatures of duty and they’re well aware that love between them is forbidden. But also, where the first two books explain how the world of Apocalypto came about, Bleeder challenges that world. Mallory in particular is forced to question not only the restrictions on her feelings but the traditions that keep certain people “in their place.”

SNR: What did you enjoy most about writing Bleeder and overall writing this series so far?
LKR: I liked exploring how the physical reality of bearing children can affect a woman’s power or powerlessness in society, depending on how that function is viewed by the society. In Apocalypto, something that is natural to most women has become so rare that the ones who can do it have a lot of power. I wanted to take the idea in the opposite direction of The Handmaid’s Tale where the fertile women had no choices at all.

SNR: What is one of your favorite scenes or part of Bleeder that you enjoyed the most?
LKR: Without spoilers, my very favorite scene in the entire book is when Kairo, one of the supporting characters, meets the king of her first contract. When I started Bleeder, I really had no idea life was going to turn out the way it did for Kairo!

SNR: If you could be any one of your characters who would it be and why?
LKR: Easy: Counselor of Allel, Edmund’s sister. She’s sweet, lovely, intuitive kind, powerful, has a totally hunky lover – what’s not to want to be?

SNR: Are there any authors or series in Science Fiction Fantasy/ Paranormal Romance that you enjoy reading?
LKR: I love the angstyness of Ann Aguirre’s Jax series, starting with Grimspace. I very much enjoy C. L. Wilson’s Tairen Soul series. And I’m sure Bleeder is influenced by Frank Herbert’s Dune books and the Bene Gesserit.  One of my favorite authors is Carolyn Jewel. I like her historical, and her My Immortals series is just fun – full of hot heroes (and anti-heros) and smart humor.

SNR: Do you have any quirks while preparing to write? Listing to music, writing outside, or anything that you like to do while writing?
LKR: I didn’t think I did have quirks. I make myself write every day. But I realized lately that I absolutely cannot write if I don’t have coffee of some kind. Black coffee, iced coffee – a four-shot latte is optimum. Then I’m good to go.

SNR: Do you have anything you’re working on at the moment that you can spoil us about?
LKR: Absolutely! I’m writing an erotic fairytale that involves possession, obsession, and an ancient curse. It’s called Give Me – another of my strange titles – and it will probably be out before the end of summer. I’m having a blast writing it.

SNR: Thank you for visiting Seeing Night Reviews, it was a pleasure to read Bleeder and interview you. J
LKR: Thank you – and thank you for the great questions!
