BLURB:
Bestselling author of the Wicked Lovely books Melissa Marr’s first contemporary YA novel is a twisted southern gothic tale of obsession, romance, and murder. A killer is obsessed with Eva Tilling. Can she stop him, or will he claim her?

When Eva Tilling wakes up in the hospital, she’s confused—who in her sleepy little North Carolina town could have hit her with their car? And why? But before she can consider the question, she finds that she’s awoken with a strange new skill: the ability to foresee people’s deaths when they touch her. While she is recovering from the hit-and-run, Nate, an old flame, reappears, and the two must traverse their rocky past as they figure out how to use Eva’s power to keep her friends—and themselves—alive. But while Eva and Nate grow closer, the killer grows increasingly frantic in his attempt to get to Eva.

For the first time, New York Times bestselling author Melissa Marr has applied her extraordinary talent to contemporary realism. Chilling twists, unrequited obsession, and high-stakes romance drive this Gothic, racy thriller—a story of small-town oppression and salvation. Melissa’s fans, and every YA reader, will find its wild ride enthralling.

REVIEW:

Finally! A story that has brought me back to the young adult genre, it’s been such a sad slump and Melissa Marr as made me remember why I loved YA so much. Marr creates a suspenseful mystery thriller storyline that turns a town upside-down when young teenagers start getting hurt and or killed.

Made for You follows Eva Tilling, whose family is like royalty in her home town in North Carolina. On one tragic night Eva is struck by a car while walking home after being ditched by her boyfriend. When she wakes up, she realizes something’s wrong and it’s not the new scars on her face. But that she can see the death of anyone she touches. This ability is the one thing she can use to find the person who hurt her and who has no decided to target people that are closest to her.

Eva is a popular girl that I wish existed, I don’t remember my high school having a rich popular girl who was kind to everyone even those that hurt her. But Eva is just that, sweet caring and doesn’t understand what has happened to her. She has to deal with a lot of problems when she wakes up, her former best friend Nate has decided to come back into her life, her boyfriend didn’t show up the night she was hurt and a killer seems to want to make her happy. I liked Eva, she was easy to connect to and someone you rooted for because she is not only a victim but also the only person who can stop this killer through her ability. Even though I wished she had more flaws and didn’t forgive so easily, I think that’s why I connected to her because she is so sweet that you hope there is redemption.

Nate is the bad boy of the town, formerly the sweet best friend of Eva. But after some family problems he decided it was better to push everyone including Eva away. I adored Nate, he has some issues to get over but he’s friendship with Eva is important to him and he wants to have her back in his life. What was interesting was seeing Eva’s ability work for the first time with Nate, I had no idea what was going to happen to him and it made me worry so much from the very beginning. In the end Nate has Eva’s back and has to put aside his feelings for her aside to keep her safe.

Overall this was a “killer” mystery, pun absolutely intended. I always thought I knew who it was but would get pulled another direction and boy was I thrilled to find out who and why. The best part of this is that the readers get to see from the killer’s point of view, it makes the readers connect but seriously fear what he’s up too. There are secondary characters along with Eva’s friend Grace who is her number one supporter, whom Eva helps and cares for her. The romance is a nice build up, relationships are definitely tested and friendship strained but everyone has to stay alert because the killer will do anything he/she wants to anyone just to make Eva see them. I was on the edge of my seat until the end and was so glad there wasn’t a cliffhanger but more of a new beginning.

RECOMMENDATION:

This is a young adult novel that is perfect for mystery seekers who love romance mixed in. Fans of the Lux series by Jennifer Armentrout and Gena Showalters White Rabbit Chronicles will want to get their hooks into Made For You by Melissa Marr.
