TOPIC:
The genre of discussion is general literary fiction. Which works of art have changed your life? Be creative and make a list outlining books featuring specific subjects (i.e., animals, recommended prize-winners, outstanding authors, etc.).For me I dont really go outside the genres: UF, Paranormal Romance, Science Fiction Fantasy, Horror, NA, and YA. I'm not the type that reads a book because it wins an award, just love books that have a great synopsis/plot, memorable characters, so the topic of yesterday: genre fiction. I did have some books that really kick started my reading back a couple of years ago that I feel are outstanding authors.
My First YA:
China Garden by Liz Berry was my first true YA book that kick started my reading back in 1999. I loved the fairy tale type story and two young teens that discovery a bog family secret. It has a great mystery! I have read this book so many times, I lost countBLURB:
When Clare moves with her mother from London to Ravensmere, a historic English estate, she can't shake the feeling that the residents already know her, especially Mark, a maddeningly attractive biker. Clare also feels compelled to take midnight walks in Ravensmere's abandoned China Garden. Then her mother reveals that their own past is tragically linked to the estate. But when Clare discovers that Ravensmere is in grave danger, will she risk her future-and Mark's-to save it?
My First Recommendation:
Ill Wind by Rachel Caine was the first book I bought on my first day of working for Borders Books and Music. I worked for the company for 5 years as a supervisor recommending books and this was my first recommendation to a customer. After falling head over heels for this awesome story and this amazing author whom I still follow today, Caine was my go to recommendation for some looking for a good Urban Fantasy.BLURB:
First in the new Weather Warden series...
Joanne Baldwin is a Weather Warden. Usually, all it takes is a wave of her hand to tame the most violent weather. But now, she's trying to outrun another kind of storm: accusations of corruption and murder. So, she's resorting to the very human tactic of running for her life...
Her only hope is Lewis, the most powerful warden known. Unfortunately, he's stolen not one but three bottles of Djinn-making him the most wanted man on earth. Still, she's racing hard to find him-before the bad weather closes in fast...
