Follow Friday {49} Deal Breakers for Books

FF 2012 Feature & Follow #98
Question this week from Parajunkee and Allison Can Read.

Q. What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can’t deal with bad editing?

A: I actually have a few deal breakers when it comes to reading. 1. Pace, if I pick up a book I shouldn't want to put it down. If I do that's the first sign I'm either bored and the plot is not picking up. 2. Characters, I've got to like the leads. If I'm going to be reading a book and the lead characters aren't interesting, I'm not going to be a fan of the story. 3. Editing, this can vary, I read a lot of books that have the minor typos and some errors in sentence stucture, but to me I want to connect with the characters and be sucked into the authors world, if that happens I'm a happy camper. But if the plots all over the place and I actually get confused well, I can't get into the book and some editing is needed. 4. Love Triangles, bleh! I'm not a fan and its not because of Twilight I just feel its so over done and the characters love can be challenge in so many author ways.

So yah, I do have a couple deal breakers, but in the end I love reading and half the time I ingore my deal breakers because I want to give all the books I read a chance.

What about you?

  1. Definitely have a problem with all of those, too. :/ Though most of the times there are *so* many books, that I manage to avoid most of my really big deal breakers. (But wow. Giving all books a chance? I probably couldn't.)

  2. I feel exactly the same about the lead character, make them easy to relate to and make them likeable!
By the way, love the header!

  5. I agree. Characters and pace must be handled well. I don't mind triangles as long as they're done well. New follower via GFC. My FFs are at Musings on Fantasia and LKHill. Happy Friday! :D

  7. Pace is a huge issue for me. I can't stand reading slow books. I'll definitely end up putting a book down or putting off reading it if I can't get into it. Books like these usually cause me to get into a reading slump.
