BLURB:
She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.
Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.
Her father was right. The monsters are real….
To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….
I wish I could go back and do a thousand things differently.
I'd tell my sister no.
I'd never beg my mother to talk to my dad.
I'd zip my lips and swallow those hateful words.
Or, barring all of that, I'd hug my sister, my mom and my dad one last time.
I'd tell them I love them.
I wish... Yeah, I wish.

REVIEW:
As a fan of Gena Showalter I have always enjoyed her writing and spunk that she puts in her characters. Alice in Zombieland keeps that same spunk and adds a bit of creepiness with a fantastic round of characters. I loved this twist to the world of Wonderland, there are elements to the original story but this is definitely original and memorable.
Alice in Zombieland follows Alice Bell who is celebrating her birthday…well not really. Her family doesn’t remember since her mother takes care of their dad who seems to have lost his mind. He says there are monsters outside and fears for his family, but after convincing her parents to take her and her sister out side at night, something terrible happens. The monsters come out and Alice wakes up in the hospital alone. Trying to put her life back together she discovers her father may not of been crazy and that other people can see these “monsters” also known as Zombies.
Alice rocked my socks, this girl pretty much goes through hell and back after loosing her family and trying to put her life back to whatever normal she can. But for some reason she becomes connected to the bad boy of her new school and finds out he too can see the zombies. She learns to fight and wants revenge for her family. Cole is the one person who believes there something about Ali that not only attracts the zombies to her but that she is able to fight back harder.
Cole, the bad boy of Ali’s new school who is known for fighting feels a pull to Ali and cant resist it. He is apart of a group that takes down the zombies and is very loyal and protective of his friends. I really loved this bad boy, Gena is known for making her make characters hot and tempting and he is all that and then some. He too has a similar background in his family to Ali’s when it comes to the Zombies.
Kat is Ali’s best friend and the number one supporter of Ali trying to start over. She is tough as nails and doesn’t care if people don’t like her or love her, she is who she is and that’s that. She also has a very interesting relationship with Frosty a good friend of Coles, whom is pretty much devoted to her. They are a hilariously entertaining couple and bring a lot of humor to the book.
Overall this book has everything, action, romance and a twisted tale of Alice in Wonderland. This does have elements of the tale, like the white rabbit which is a warning sign from Ali’s sisters spirit and of course Alice herself, I almost wish there were a bit more references to the classic. But standing apart from the tale I absolutely loved this book. The zombies were creepy good and the beginning made such an emotion impact that I couldn’t put this book down until I finished it. Even if you’re not a zombie fan, I still recommend this book the character are well thought out and the plot is one you won’t forget.
RECOMMENDATION:
This is a young adult novel with a bit of violence and of course zombies! Fans of Gretchen McNeil’s Possess and Talia Vance’s Silver will want to read Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter.
