REVIEW:
I so missed the Steampunk Chronicles; it’s already been a year since I met Finely, Griffin, Sam, Emily and Jasper. I was excited to get back into their world of crazy action and exciting plot. I felt that we really got to know each character a little more and I absolutely loved every bit of it.
Jasper is in some major trouble and has been taken back to America; to his former gang leader, Dalton, who has kidnapped him. To keep Jasper in line he’s using his past love Mei to make sure Jasper finishes a job for him. Thus leading the gang back in England to come get Jasper out of whatever trouble he’s in.
The story switches from Jaspers point of view back to his friends trying to find him. We get a lot of background on Jasper, meeting his past love, finding out that he will do practically anything to protect her, and about his family. No matter what, I really didn’t like Mei. She may have seemed innocent and lost but she truly is a bad seed who really made a bad decision and her personality turned me off from liking her. What I found interesting was the clockwork collar she wore and how it tightened whenever she did something wrong, I thought it made for a great threating tool.
Finely as always was a thrill, tougher than ever and always ready for a fight. She really is trying to find herself and her trust in her new friends is growing. She really took it upon herself to help Jasper; she put herself in a dangerous situation, which made for some awesome bickering between her and Griffin.
Griffin and Finely were so entertaining, always arguing about Finely charging in on her own and Griffin wanting to protect her. The chemistry is really alive this time and I couldn’t get enough of it. There were some really humorous moments between the two that made me love them even more. Of course I cant forget Emily and Sam, these two keep the story fresh and moving.
Overall there was a ton of action, romance and a strong bond of friendship between these great characters. The villain is trying to put together a machine that can do some serious damage and puts everyone in danger. There was never a dull moment and I can’t wait for the next chapter in the Steampunk Chronicles.
RECOMMENDATION:
This is a young adult novel with some minor scenes of violence. Fans of Meg Cabots Abandon Trilogy and Rae Carsons Fire and Thorn series will love The Girl in the Clockwork Collar by Kady Cross.
