How do you decide to read a book by an author you haven't read before? What sort of recommendations count most highly in making that decision?
For me since I'm a graphic designer, I have to say I do judge books by there covers....yes, I am one of them. When looking for a new book at a store, I just browse at what has just been released and take a look at covers that I find interesting and then I'll read the synopsis to see if it's in my genres. I still only stick to my genres: Urban Fantasy, Science Fiction Fantasy romance, Horror, YA, Paranormal Romance. Otherwise if I can't seem to find anything I ask fellow bloggers or read reviews online to see if any new authors have gotten a lot of interest from bloggers.
But again, I have been surprised here and there about some books. A while back I would of never have touch a plain fiction YA book, I always need some paranormal element in my YA. Buy my friend Angela over at Reading Angel, told be I must read Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. I absolutely loved that book, so this goes to show that fellow bloggers a definitely a big help in recommending and that sometimes its good to try outside your genres once in a while.
I often judge books by their covers too. :)
