Knowledge changes everything…

Hoodoo-influenced Southern Louisiana seems like the perfect place for Camille to relocate and escape her abusive past. She didn’t expect to fall in love and plummet herself into the world of Amaranth, a place of exile for reformed vampires.

Thanks to her deadly vampire ex-boyfriend, she’s confronted with decisions that not only threaten her life but the lives of her inhuman friends that she has come to love. Entangled in her friends’ quest for freedom, she dives into their realm and faces the threats of the ruler of Amaranth—the mother of all vampires—and her own inner demons.

Will she derail her life and make the ultimate sacrifice for the very monsters that interrupted her bumpy path back to sanity—the one she wanted so desperately in the first place? Or will she find a way to escape with her vampire love before it’s too late?

REVIEW:
I’m always amazed at the different way to tell a vampire story without it getting repetitive and Amaranth by Rachael Wade was another that I found to be entertaining. A beautifully written story about love, sacrifice and friendship, that has a lot of fun twist and turns.

Camille is a young women who dreams of getting away from all the troubles, mostly all the bad relationships she seems to be getting in. The latest doesn’t seem to want to let her go and it has turned into fear and abuse, something she desperately needs to get away from.  Then steps in Gavin, a mysterious man from her past whom she is drawn to immediately. With her best friend in town and Gavin by her side, things are looking up until her ex comes back into the picture and is not only more dangerous that he was before but he’s the definition of a monster.  But she soon finds out everyone around her has a little secret of their own.

Even though this story contains the typical girl meets vampire story, I felt the world of Amaranth that Wade created made it unique and exciting.  I really enjoyed the depth she went with both Camille’s family and Gavin’s just gave more background and emotional fell to both of them.  I have to say I found that Camille’s best friend and Gavin’s friend were very strong characters and I’m really hoping to see what happens next with them.  I also love paranormal stories based in Louisiana, I feel it’s just the perfect setting for a good southern vampire story.

Overall I enjoyed Amaranth and the different take on vampires and the world that they live in.  The only part I had a issue with was the end, I didn’t know it was over until I turned the page. It just felt abrupt and unfinished, but I understood why Wade did that with the information that was given at the end, I just felt it was a bit awkward for me.  I recommend this book to all vampire lovers looking for a unique world and wonderful characters.

RECOMMENDATION:
This is an adult book with some with focus on vampires and the topic of abuse is mentioned. This is the first book in the Resistance Trilogy and I look forward to the next installment called The Gates.

  6. I'm really glad you liked this book b/c I looove books that take place anywhere near New Orleans, but when I read more of the synopsis I didn't think I'd like it. So, I'm glad you gave it such high marks. I'm going to put it on my goodreads tbr.
