If you don't know what Wither is about here is the Synopsis:
What if you knew exactly when you would die?
Thanks to modern science, every human being has become a ticking genetic time bomb—males only live to age twenty-five, and females only live to age twenty. In this bleak landscape, young girls are kidnapped and forced into polygamous marriages to keep the population from dying out.
When sixteen-year-old Rhine Ellery is taken by the Gatherers to become a bride, she enters a world of wealth and privilege. Despite her husband Linden's genuine love for her, and a tenuous trust among her sister wives, Rhine has one purpose: to escape—to find her twin brother and go home.
But Rhine has more to contend with than losing her freedom. Linden's eccentric father is bent on finding an antidote to the genetic virus that is getting closer to taking his son, even if it means collecting corpses in order to test his experiments. With the help of Gabriel, a servant Rhine is growing dangerously attracted to, Rhine attempts to break free, in the limted time she has left.

I look for a strong hero/heroine. A strong plot. Lots of twists and turns. Something that sparks the imagination. If its not UF or paranormal, I look for something that shows real world experiences but not something that is too harsh (if that makes any sense).
ReplyDeleteI look for escapism.

ReplyDeleteIn YA novels I looked to be surprised in a good way which is hard to look for but nevertheless I hope for. I enjoy genuine plots, round characters meaning they seem real and yeah a little romance never hurts, except when it does ;)
ReplyDeleteRomances that are not shallow. Attention to detail/good worldbuilding. Basically all the same things I look for in a not YA book, but perhaps less grim.
ReplyDeleteI look for a strong hero/heroine, epic love, good versus evil, loyalty, and humor. Preferably sarcastic humor from hot characters that are conceited only enough to make us love them more than we'd already love them if they weren't conceited. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI look for a strong plot, that mostly involves the adventure, with the romance only being something on the side. I LOVE strong characters, but it's also nice when they discover that they have a weak spot that they didn't know they had. Humor is also a major thing for me. I'm attracted to funny people, so I'm attracted to funny characters. Nothing cheesy though :P

ReplyDeleteFantastic Answers everyone! Thank you for entering the giveaway and I love reading all the responses. I look for many of the same things as all of you in a YA novel
ReplyDeleteI look, first of all, for an interesting plot. Sometimes this comes from realistic situations, others from dystopian variations on society or retellings of classic tales. After that, I look for good writing and well-developed, interesting characters.
ReplyDeletei look for fast paced action, bad-a characters, or love stories that make you want to rip your heart out and throw them across the room.
ReplyDeleteWhat I look for in YA? The feeling of being young and in those shoes again I look for growth and self-analysis. :)
ReplyDelete(Who am I kidding? I'm still young dang it!)
What do I look for in a YA novel?
ReplyDeleteStrong lead character, exciting love interest and good world building.
I look for great character development and romance. Nothing over the top, but one that develops slowly.
ReplyDeleteI look for originality and a strong lead character, whether it be male or female. I also look for depth in the plot, and someone/something that I can relate to.
ReplyDeleteI look for something new and different. Strong characters. A means to escape real life!
ReplyDeleteAwesome answers! I really like how everyone has specifics in what interest them in YA books :)
ReplyDeleteI love any YA that has a paranormal/fantasy element to it. But my favorite is fairy tale type stories. I'm not as big of a fan of contemporary.
ReplyDeleteI look for a unique compelling story. I want to be brought in to the story and feel the ups and downs as the characters do. I want to be brought back into that time in my life where I led with emotions. Though it was a while ago, I like revisiting through stories. I want to laugh and cry and fall in love
ReplyDeleteSomething to take me away.
ReplyDeletei'm looking for entertainment, quick read and characters i can relate to.

A Strong Heroine that kicks butt!!
ReplyDeleteWhat I look for in a YA novel is if the first few chapters capture my interest and if it has a good plot. Its all about the plot for me. hehe
ReplyDeleteFirst off, thanks a ton for a great contest!
ReplyDeleteSecond, I look forward for strong characters and a unique plot. Things start to get old when all the books are too alike!
I look for characters that are believable and a story that moves quickly. I like happily ever endings too. :)
ReplyDeleteWell I'm a huge character-driven person so if a story has characters that suck, I'm out. I like my characters realistic, strong and funny is a nice bonus ;) I also like writing that flows, with good descriptions and a consistent plot. I don't need lots of plot twists but it's nice when it happens. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI look for the same things I look for in any book, a great story, wonderful characters, and an imaginative world.
ReplyDeleteI look for a character I can love. Without a strong lead character, the book simply dies.
ReplyDeleteSecond, I look for a good love story. I'm a romantic, and rarely read books that don't at least hint at a romance.
