Laney's ex-boyfriend Lachlan Hems is back in Florida, still Australian and sexy as hell. His best mate Lucas is getting married, and he is in town for the show. He just didn’t realize Laney would be there … in another guy’s arms, or that seeing her again would have such an effect on him. After the incident in high-school, he vowed to never care for her again. But sometimes fate has different plans.

When Laney’s resolve crumbles, Lachlan is the only one that can put her back together again.

REVIEW:

The first book in a new series by Alla Kar is a mixture of emotional heartbreak and how true love can find its way back.

Where You Are Follows Laney Scott who is a young college student and go to girl for advice on guys and relationships. She gets pulled into her friend’s drama after a guy breaks her heart after pretty much a one-night stand. Knowing all too well about heartbreak, Laney decides to help her friend get back at the guy by breaking his heart. But when her ex comes back into town her plans start to spiral out of control, because her ex doesn’t want to let her get away again.

Laney is a no bull kind of girl; she thinks she knows the ins and outs of men and how they treat woman. But all in all Laney is hurt from her past relationship when she left the love of her life. She’s made mistakes and the readers will learn about how her past relationship fell apart, but we also learn that she isn’t as cold hearted, as she seems. After a bet to break her friends one-night stand, Aiden’s heart, she realizes the guy isn’t all that bad he’s just not that bright. Interesting what happens when you actually get to know someone. In the end Laney has to figure out what her heart wants and if she can forgive herself.
Lachlan is all charm and all about Laney, he loves her and lost her because of something that could have been resolved another way. I felt he was the mature one in the relationship, from the beginning and bits of the past I could tell he had his stuff together, while Laney was all over the place. All in all I couldn’t really tell why he cared so much. I feel their past relationship should have been focused on in detail a little more, why was their love so strong. Lachlan in the end is a good guy, a little aggressive in the manner of trying to get Laney back, but understandable with how she kept fleeing.

Overall I see a lot of potential, secondary characters were introduced and I’m hoping Aiden comes back into the picture for a future story. The characters had some major emotional barriers to push through and just really needed to talk. What the story was missing was the details, the build up to why the relationship was strong before the incident, as well as after everything was discussed it felt like everything ended just way too quickly. With all the build up, I was hoping for a lengthier healing conversation and the two characters learning about each other again. What happened in the gap between the end and them meeting again, really needed something to bring everything together. In the end I liked the resolve, the passion and the bits of humor mixed into an emotional storyline, it came together nicely at the end.

RECOMMENDATION:

This is a new adult novel with some sexual content and language for a mature reader. Fans of Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire and Wait for You by J. Lynn will enjoy Where You Are by Alla Kar.

  1. Great review Kristen, it's amazing what a bit of communication can do for the characters isn't it? Laney and Lochlan sound like they have their issues and they undergo a lot of development in the book.

    1. Totally!! Communication was the major factor for this book and Laney kept avoiding the conversation and that would of helped resolve everything. Thanks so much for visiting!
