Though drugged out of his mind, he promises her ecstasy and is determined to deliver—but hospital staff intervenes. 215 is a man Trisha will never forget. But, when she meets him again at Homeland…he doesn’t even remember her!

The nosy new doctor wants to know all about the breeding habits between humans and Species. Slade proposes a hands-on education but she’s not interested in a one-night stand. He can’t offer more because he’s haunted by the memory of a woman he once tried to claim. He’s shocked when he realizes they are one and the same. He’s blown it—she’ll never give him a chance now.

But, when her life is in danger, he’s the only one who can save her. As they flee through the wilderness, their desire ignites and cannot be denied. Hot sex, on the run, has consequences that are even more dangerous and will change their lives forever.

REVIEW:

I read the first in the New Species a while ago; I loved the idea of living in a world where a new species was introduced, them being human with animal traits. The controversy, the unique habits of the people who were tested on, and how each would learn to live now that they were free from being experimented on, was so intriguing. I couldn’t wait to continue the series and learn more about them.

Slade follows Trisha Norbit who is a doctor working for the New Species. Before she worked at a hospital where she met Slade, who was one of many New Species who were save from the scientist who experimented on them. Years later she is now working at the New Species headquarters, hoping to discover more about them and if they can eventually have children. But while on a scheduled trip for a meeting with the leader of the New Species; she along with her guard are run off the road and hunted. Her guard Slade the very man she met years ago, is her only safety and he will do anything to keep her alive, even if it means he has to get close to a human like her.

Trisha is a very dedicated doctor and is intrigued with the New Species and if there is a possibility of breeding between humans and them. From what she knows if that New Species are infertile. Aldo that the first human and NS couple are keeping mum about their relationship. But all her intrigue goes out the door when her life becomes endangered because she’s is targeted for being a human helping the NS. I liked Trisha’s character because she’s all about the science and understanding ways to help the NS, but she also is extremely attracted to Slade, the one NS she met years ago who kissed the bejesus out of her. The duo get stuck in the middle of nowhere with hunters who are anti-new species after them. Her interactions and chemistry with Slade are fun and hot. Trisha has so many questions and Slade is interested in human life and mating of course. In the end Trisha realizes that her connection all those years ago, is still there floating between them.

Slade is a major kick butt rough around the edges type of guy. Totally alpha male, he is mixed with a canine and has really protective instincts. What I like about the New Species is that they are human, but have slightly different looks that make them stand out among human males. Their noses are wider; their eyes are different colors, and their body build is massive along with speed, strength, etc. Slade is very protective and caring when it comes to Trisha, they bond really quickly and need each other to survive being hunted. I love how Slade cared for her, he does make some mistakes but in the end figures out how to make up for it.

Overall this series is great, I love the world building and the political sides of humans that are for and against the New Species. The romance is definitely intense, of course smoking hot and Slade really knows how to make a girl want to faint. The dynamic between the two leads is amazing and I could see that Dohner knows hows to keep the romance and suspense going no matter the situation. Slade introduces more characters and also continues to show what happened to Fury and his mate from the first book. I’m totally looking forward continuing the series and seeing which kick butt male is next.
