REVIEW:

Devon Monk does it again, after finishing her Allie Beckstrom series I couldn’t wait for another kick butt female character and super creative world building. Monk does just that with the House of Immortals, it has everything I love about Urban Fantasy’s especially with such an original plot line too hook me in.

House of Immortals follows Matilda Case, who is a very unique woman. Matilda is different because she is stitched together, build from pieces, becoming another success story from her fathers many experiments. But she lives in a world separated by houses that are similar to governments, many of them such as the Black and White houses, are dangerous. With the death of her parents she is left in the care of her grandmothers estate and taking care of her fathers many unique creatures on the farm. But when a man by the name of Abraham Seventh comes to her door injured and searching for her father, Matilda realizes her uniqueness is connected to the very sought after beings known as the Galvanized. She is forced to leave home and assist the Grey House against the dangers of the other houses. But with so many secrets and enemies seeking to get their hands on her, Matilda needs all the help she can get from Abraham and her missing brother.

Matilda aka Tilly, is such an awesome lead character; she has lived a very abnormal life as a young girl who was stitched together. But what’s even more interesting is that the beings known as the Galvanized, (similar to her) she can make them feel. I’m so curious to why she can make them feel, and it’s obvious that the Galvanized will want to keep her around for that very reason. She brings along her friend Ned, who is a two-headed guy that seriously was my other favorite character. He’s like a big brother type with her and they work together in keeping their home safe and finding out what happened to her brother, who happens to be the only one who may know why she’s different.

Abraham Seventh is a bit of a mystery still; he comes to seek the help of Tilly’s father but becomes fascinated by her ability to make him feel. He eventually convinces her to come with him to the Grey House, where he introduces her to many Galvanzied like him. He’s definitely a good guy working with the head of the Grey house, who is also a good guy. I feel there is more than meets they eye with him and seriously cant wait to find out more about his past.

Overall this was an excellent start to the series, the world building will blow your mind, its seriously that cool and that detailed! Monk has a way to create worlds that feel like our reality mixed with a kick of fantasy. The coolest aspects were being introduced to all the houses, Red, Black, White, Yellow, Green, Grey, Brown, etc. Each color meaning something different, Such as White being medical, Green is agriculture, and so on, it such a clever idea, as well as each persona of the people are just like the house they live in. I cant wait to continue this series and absolutely recommended it, not only for the originality and great writing, but because the characters are ones that you connect too and want to see what happens to next.

RECOMMENDATION:

This is an urban fantasy series that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Fans of Devon Monks Allie Beckstrom series and Rachel Caine’s Weather Warden series will want to get their hands on a copy of House Immortal by Devon Monk.
