BLURB:
I'd never felt so vulnerable, at once both lost and found, as I now did sprawled across Savage in this foolish throne-chair. His strength was my solace, my comfort, and there was nothing better than hearing the beating of his heart beneath my ear.

Once trapped in a loveless, pleasure-less marriage, Evelyn Hard leaves her home in New York for the glittering ballrooms of London. However, when she arrives she meets the Earl of Savage, a dark, powerful man who seems to live up to his name, despite his noble trappings, a man who possesses her with just one look. Soon Evelyn finds herself pulled into Savage's world—a world of passion unlike any she has ever experienced. Evelyn's heart is captured with no hope of escape. But can they overcome the tortures of the past together?

Savage never imagined someone like Evelyn walking into his life. As soon as he sees her he knows he must have her, no matter the cost.

REVIEW:

I’ve been easing my way into more historical romances and was intrigued by Mia Gabriel’s description of the Earl of Savage, and of course his name being Savage! Anyways, this was a quick read in a darker more intense and secretive side of the wealthy in the 1900s.

Evelyn Hart is starting over, leaving New York behind for the colder setting of London. Recently widowed to a man whom she married to please her fathers business, she finally feels like she can breath. While attending a boring ball, where many suitors surround her, she catches the eye of a man named Lord Savage, whom she witnessed in a very compromising situation with another woman. Thus she is invited to a week in the country with her new friend Lady Carleigh and her guests. But the week in the country isn’t a normal event, but an adventurous sexual adventure.

Evelyn was married young to someone whom her father chose, now she can live a life she wants before she ever thinking of getting married again. All in all finding a man whom she’d actually wants to be with. I could tell right from the start of her innocents and how she wanted adventure or something exciting to happen. When she see’s Lord Savage at the ball she is not disgusted by what she catches him doing but fascinated and excited. I was a bit worried about her inexperience with men and what Lord Savage would bring her into. But in the end I felt their relationship helped both of them open up a bit more, even though the circumstances were a little extreme.

Lord Savage is everything his name means, he is an alpha male who enjoys women and being with them. But also always gets what a wants and he wants Evelyn, he even takes up in bidding for her time for a charity so that he can be with her. I’m all for alpha males and seriously enjoy a man who wants to take care of his women, but I was actually a little taken aback by Savage. He was a bit too over the top for my liking. He does care for Evelyn and becomes almost too scarily obsessed with her, but again there are reasons for his actions. He craves Evelyn as something more than just a lover as well as she feels there is something about their connection. Inn the end for Savage he was kind of a hit and miss for me.

This is only the beginning, as this sounds like it will be a trilogy and the ending hinted at an intriguing start for Savage and Evelyn. This story has a mixture of dominant and submissive moments with slight mentions of BDSM. The setting takes place in one location of an estate where extravagant and erotic dinners take place, and the whole property is used for their adventures. I was also a bit shocked by a lot of the scenes too and the romance of course was smoking hot. The secondary characters aren’t hugely focused on but are hilarious as well as over the top crazy, with some creepy villains. In the end I’m hoping the next book focuses more on the characters and plot, that way I can connect more to Evelyn and Savage.

RECOMMENDATION:

This is a mature adult novel, with sexual content that is suited for readers of the age of 18. Fans of Anita Clenney’s Conner Clan series and A Marriage of Inconvenience by Susanna Fraser will enjoy Lord Savage by Mia Gabriel.
