The only problem is; he isn’t. He’s starting a war with karma and everyone knows karma always fights back with a vengeance.

Gabby Taylor is screwed. On her first day at her new internship, she runs into the guy she’s been fighting to avoid. The one guy whose family despises her and she drunkenly gave her virginity away to. And he’s her new co-worker.

She is messing up everything Dalton Douglas has planned. She climbed her way into his thoughts, thrown her bags down and he could’t manage to evict her- even if it cost him everything he’s been
working his ass off for. The only problem is: she’s fighting him. He will fight to keep her but can he manage to hide his own secrets that would ruin everything between them?

REVIEW:

Karma is definitely a new adult that will have you talking after you finish. I had a major love hate relationship with the story, as the characters would frustrate me and make me happy at the same time. Get ready for an emotional roller coaster for one unlucky girl who is defiantly cursed by Karma.

Karma follows Gabby, an eighteen-year-old girl who is the daughter of a home wreaker… well says, her new extended family. You see her mother married a man who was married at the time of their affair, Gabby is sadly stuck in a sticky situation and even more so when she hooks up with Dalton. Dalton being the son of her new stepfathers brother… Karma much? Gabby’s life if about to get much more complicated with her new job, working along side Dalton and dealing with the new family chaos. But what she isn’t prepared for is her heart being broken and Karma finally getting the best of her.

Gabby is what I would call the most unlucky girl, she not only has to live a life surrounded by a family who doesn’t like her, but also be near the one guy she cant be with. Gabby is only eighteen and not quite sure where her life is taking her, she decides to take a year off before college and work for her stepfathers PR company. Sadly she has to deal with her Stepfathers terrible brother and his irresistible and arrogant son Dalton. Her first client with Dalton is a political nightmare, which brings the two closer and in danger of causing more family drama. Most of the book I was shaking my head at Gabby, she decides to ignore the warning signs and follow her heart into heartbreak. But sometimes you can’t fight what the heart wants.

Dalton is a bit rough around the edges, when the readers first meet him he oozes sexy and forbidden. But it soon changes when his family situation is brought out in the open. I felt bad for the guy most of the time; he has the most horrendous father and is forced into a relationship that he doesn’t want. Luckily it’s with a girl who is pretty cool and gets where he’s coming. But he also makes some major mistakes, which made me want to slap him. Gabby is a tough cookie but I feel he could have handled his feelings a little differently with her. In the end I hope he can redeem his faults and also figure out how to separate the chaos of his family.

Overall I thought this was a great start to a new series, there is so much that happens. Besides the steamy romance, the major focus is on a family that’s full of scandals and power hungry parents. In a way you can call this a Romeo and Juliet like story, with some political issues in the mix. I finished this one in one sitting so it was a quite read with some minor secondary characters, (Asher!) whom I hope to get more on in the next book! After the shocking ending, I’m on the edge of my seat for the second book, as I have to know what Gabby is going to do next! GRRR I hate cliffhangers!

RECOMMENDATION:

This is a new adult novel with sexual content suited for mature readers 18 and up. Fans of Love, In English by Karina Halle and Be With Me by J. Lynn will love I Want It That Way by Ann Aguirre.

  1. Ha this sounds like a really fun read. I love those where you're not sure if you love a certain character or just love to hate them. It sounds like an emotional ride, too, which I always enjoy! Great review, Kristen!
