BLURB:
Young interior designer Ava O’Shea has an appointment for a first consultation at The Manor with the owner, Mr Jesse Ward. She is expecting nothing more than an overweight, cravat wearing, well-to-do countryman, and on arrival, nothing would suggest otherwise. How wrong could she be? This Man is devastatingly handsome, charming and confident. He is also a conceited, hedonistic playboy, who knows no boundaries. Ava desperately does not want to be attracted to him, but she can’t control the overwhelming affect he has on her. Every instinct is telling her to run, so she does, but Jesse Ward is not so willing to let her go. He wants her and is determined to have her. She knows she is heading for heartbreak, but how can she run when he won’t let her?

REVIEW:

I’m usually not one to follow hypes, but I had to know why This Man by Malpas had so many great reviews and over three thousand reviews on goodreads. I was very surprised how hooked I was! This is definitely an adult story but this mostly focuses on a relationships ups and downs, secrets and betrayals, and of course the romance.

This Man follows Ava O’Shea who is rising up in her job as a high quality interior designer. The owner of the estate called The Manor has specifically picked her. She is excited and intrigued because her designs don’t seem to fit The Manors style. But when Ava meet The lord of The Manor, Jesse Ward, she is speechless for the first time. Jesse Ward isn’t like any man she’s ever met and he is determined to convince Ava that their attraction is something special. But Jesse holds some big secrets and Ava wants answers before her heart is broken yet again by a man.

Ava is an intelligent real woman with spunk and beauty. She loves her job and is darn good at it, but when she’s picked for designing a place that doesn’t fit her modern touch, she is curious as to why she was chosen. I loved how Ava showed pride in her job and even though the story was heavy focused on the romance, the author made sure to show her progress in her designs and determination to make her clients happy. She definitely has to learn how to deal with the surprise of Jesse Ward, she isn’t ready for him and isn’t sure if its healthy for her to be in another relationship. Her last boyfriend cheated on her and left her heartbroken and not really on the look out for a relationship. I enjoyed watching Ava constantly out of her element and still able to have fun with her best friend Kate while dealing with the very possessive Jesse. I do, at time wish she would of taken a stand against a lot of the games he played but in the end he’s never been in a relationship, nor met a woman like Ava.

Jesse Ward is what many women may consider their idea fantasy man, similar to the mysterious Christian Grey. Jesse has some secrets behind all the money and style. He was a lot like a big kid when it came to relationships, he isn’t sure how to handle the not so obedient Ava, nor does he like when she needs to girls night or being away from her for more than a day. He does however know how to run his business and run it well, but his business has many mysterious aspects that will keep the readers guessing. At time I feel like he is out of his mind, but at other times he’s sexy and all class. There are still some pieces about him that I can’t wait to learn about but hopefully his crazy possessiveness cools down a bit.

Overall this was an intense and very mature story about romance and trust. Both characters are learning about being in a relationship, understanding what they need and want and hoping to not get hurt in the end. Overall I enjoyed the secondary characters Kate, Ava’s best friend, the very intriguing Sam and best friend of Jesse and all of Ava’s funny and outgoing co-workers. In the end I’m excited to see what happens next, there are a lot of shocking moments, especially at the end and some amazing romance.

RECOMMENDATION:

This is an adult novel with very mature sexual content suited for mature readers over the age of 18 and over. Fans of Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James and Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren will enjoy This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas.
