BLURB:
a) Bad boy’s presence (TrOuBlE) + teen girl’s brain (DraMa) = TrAuMa (Highly unstable and very volatile.)
b) The Genus Greekulum Godissimus is notable for three traits: 1) awesome abilities, 2) grudges, and 3) hook-ups, break-ups, and in-fighting that puts cable to shame.

Prior to the Halloween dance, Sophie figures her worst problems involve adolescent theatrics, bitchy yoga girls, and being on probation at her boarding school for mouthy behaviour. Then she meets bad boy Kai and gets the kiss that rocks her world.

Literally.

This breath stealing lip lock reawakens Sophie’s true identity: Persephone, Goddess of Spring. She’s key to saving humanity in the war between the Underworld and Olympus, target numero uno of Hades and Zeus, and totally screwed.

Plus there’s also the little issue that Sophie’s last memory as Persephone was just before someone tried to murder her.

Big picture: master her powers, get her memories back, defeat Persephone’s would be assassin, and save the world. Also, sneak into the Underworld to retrieve stolen property, battle the minions of Hades and Zeus, outwit psycho nymphs, slay a dragon, rescue a classmate, keep from getting her butt expelled from the one place designed to keep her safe …

… and stop kissing Kai, Prince of the Underworld.

REVIEW:

Hilarious! I love when an author really has fun with their writing but even more so when the humor keeps me laughing until the very end. Tellulah Darling really knows how to create a funny high school environment with all the drama and sarcasm that reminded me of all the insanity that was high school. If only mine had some Greek gods mixed in and I had the power of Persephone it would have been awesome!

My Ex From Hell follows Sophie Bloom a sixteen-year-old girl who gets a wake up call that she wasn’t expecting. After semi accomplishing her goal in ruining her nemesis and school bully’s party, she discovers she a goddess and the boy she just kissed is a god. Sophie is thrust into a whirlwind of chaos, along with dealing with her so called “ex” from her past Kai, the son of Hades. With a war between her father and Kai’s still stirring and now they know she’s alive, nothing will be this same for this high school junior.

Sophie reminded me of myself so much I was laughing through half the book. I’m a sarcastic moody girl sometimes; even more so in high school and Sophie hits a high note in sarcasm. She is just a normal girl in the beginning only plotting out a plan to get revenge of the popular and very annoying Bethany. I myself wished that she’d just slap that girl and put her in her place. Anyways… once Sophie’s life changes and she discovers she is Persephone in human form, she must learn about her powers. But also try to remember her past, which her ex Kai is making it difficult and exciting all at the same time.

But Sophie is not alone in discovering her true self; she has Theo a Titan and her best friend Hannah who just clicks with Sophie’s humorous demeanor. I liked how Sophie took everything with stride, not understanding what happened to her past but trying to solve what happened. She is not a traditional goddess; her clumsiness and fight before thinking persona gets her into trouble, But Kai is there to help her out sometimes. Sophie’s main goal is to stay alive and hope her father Zeus and his brother Hades don’t try to kill her again.

Kai is a mystery; he had a past with Sophie’s goddess self-Persephone who the readers will be able to tell he truly cared for. But he has a hard time seeing his love in Sophie whose loud mouth remarks and slight hatred toward him make it hard to show his true self. He does a lot that frustrated me, mostly acting like a totally jerk and not really caring who he hurt. But I’m hoping for the best, the readers get glimpses of who he can be through all the bad.

Overall I thought this story rocked! It’s a relief to get some sense of humor in a story that has a mix of mythology, magic, and romance. I felt that the young adult books were are starting to blend together and this one definitely stands apart because of the writing and lighter tones that kept me laughing. There is a ton for readers to enjoy, with side characters that stand out, action packed fight scenes, magic, great villains and of course hints of romance! After the slight cliffhanger at the end I’m so excited to continue this series and cant wait to see what Sophie gets herself into next.

RECOMMENDATION:

This is a young adult novel that will suck you into the Greek mythology with lots of laughs. Fans of Aimee Carter’s Goddess Test series and Jennifer Armentrout’s Covenant series will love the first in the Blooming Goddess series by Tellulah Darling.
