{Weekly Rewind} Stray by Rachel Vincent

Weekly Rewind is a new feature that I'm starting on SNR. Each week I will talk about a past book that I enjoyed, one that I would recommend and love to read again and again.

Featured Book: Stray by Rachel Vincent
Blurb: There are only eight breeding female werecats left . . .
And I'm one of them.
I look like an all-American grad student. But I am a werecat, a shape-shifter, and I live in two worlds.

Despite reservations from my family and my Pride, I escaped the pressure to continue my species and carved out a normal life for myself. Until the night a Stray attacked.

I'd been warned about Strays -- werecats without a Pride, constantly on the lookout for someone like me: attractive, female, and fertile. I fought him off, but then learned two of my fellow tabbies had disappeared.

This brush with danger was all my Pride needed to summon me back . . . for my own protection. Yeah, right. But I'm no meek kitty. I'll take on whatever -- and whoever -- I have to in order to find my friends. Watch out, Strays -- 'cause I got claws, and I'm not afraid to use them . . .
Why Stray?
I chose Stray by Rachel Vincent because of Faythe, the protagonist and one of eight female werecats. She's a very independent character and really wanted to start a "normal" life away from her family, The Pride. I like when female leads strays (no pun intended) away from the weaker "I need a strong man" type. She is strong, can fight, and seriously has one sharp tongue that gets her in trouble. Plus I loved the romance, it wasn't in your face until you get more into the next book, but its there and I loved the tension. I actually have read this book  in the series at least three times, because I just loved the characters developments. Stray was released in 2007, Vincent is an author that is on my must watch & read list. She does have a hugely popular Young Adult series called the Soul Screamers, but I must say I loved the Shifters series so much more.

  3. Soul Screamers is a great series and I really liked the first two books in her Adult Unbound series. Have you read those? Totally different than anything I've read in PNR/UF. The 3rd book is coming out in April :-)
