When you can’t trust yourself, who can you believe?

Everything about Anna’s life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There’s Nick, Cas, Trev . . . and Sam, who’s stolen Anna’s heart. When the Branch decides it’s time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to retrieve them.

Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t remember anything before living in the lab—not even their true identities.

Now on the run, Anna soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways than either of them expected. And if they’re both going to survive, they must piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and steals it all away.

REVIEW:
Now this is a book that not only surprised me but also made me wish that this was a movie, because this is one story that is a must read! Even though I loved the science fiction side and romance, it was all about the mystery and how everything started connecting and how each character had an important role in something bigger.

Altered follows Anna whose life has revolved around helping her father with his very interesting project for the government. He runs a lab in his house, which holds four boys who all have been altered and are being prepared for something big. But when secrets start to unfold, Anna is swept away with the boys only to discover she is apart of all the mystery behind who these boys are.

Anna is a curious girl in the beginning, waiting to help her father and find out more about the boys whom she has grown fond of over the years. She is put in a pretty tough situation when the boys get a chance to escape; she goes with them at the request of her father. I was curious to why he wanted her to go with them, but all questions are answered. There is a lot of mystery behind Anna ‘connection, especially to Sam, but I don’t want to give away anymore than that with her. The romance bit is Anna’s attraction and curiosity behind Sam and I loved watching it unfold.

Sam, he is the obvious leader when the readers first meet the boys. There is definitely more that meets the eye with this one. He keeps the boys in check especially Nick, who doesn’t trust anyone, mostly Anna. But as he starts to put the pieces together, he discovers some secrets behind the government project and that all of their past lives have been very dangerous.

Each boy is very different from one and other; they each have a special skill that makes them valuable to the project and survival. There is also something that I found super interesting, each have tattoos that connect them and lead them to find out who they are. I loved the idea of the tattoos and hope to find out more about them in the future.

Overall, this story is all action packed. There is a lot of nail biting moments that you aren’t sure whose going to get caught or even hurt. I was shocked with how everything came together but more mystery lie ahead for the group. For the readers looking for romance, you wont be disappointed, I loved the tension and even some humor that carried through out the story.
