BLURB:
Once a century, one person is chosen for greatness.

Elisa is the chosen one.

But she is also the younger of two princesses, the one who has never done anything remarkable. She can’t see how she ever will.

Now, on her sixteenth birthday, she has become the secret wife of a handsome and worldly king—a king whose country is in turmoil. A king who needs the chosen one, not a failure of a princess.

And he’s not the only one who needs her. Savage enemies seething with dark magic are hunting her. A daring, determined revolutionary thinks she could be his people’s savior. And he looks at her in a way that no man has ever looked at her before. Soon it is not just her life, but her very heart that is at stake.

Elisa could be everything to those who need her most. If the prophecy is fulfilled. If she finds the power deep within herself. If she doesn’t die young.

Most of the chosen do.

REVIEW:
The Girl of Fire and Thorns was on my top list to read and I was happy to win a copy of Goodreads.  The story sounds intriguing and I love unique worlds with kings and queen.

Elisa is the young princess of Orovalle and the Chosen One who is the bearer of the Godstone. Her life isn’t very easy for as soon as she turns sixteen she is married off to a weak king of a powerful country. Little does she know how much that country needs her to be this Chosen one and save them from a horrible war. Along the way Elisa must fight battles against savages she never thought she would find herself in and learn about the prophecy everyone is determined to see her fulfill.

I enjoyed this book; it reminded me a lot of Kristen Cashore’s Fire novel with the Kings, magic and the battle. But I felt something was missing in the characters, I couldn’t really connect to any of them or really care, except for Elise, who was definitely the strongest one, next to Cosme a young leader.

Elise, grew up immensely through out the story, she had a lot to learn, fight and lose as she tried to figure out her prophecy. I enjoyed how passionate she became in understanding the people that were suffering. I felt for her when she lost people close to her and how she must of felt being practically given over to a king who wasn’t ever there for her.  Carson’s details with Elisa’s character were the main reason I enjoyed the novel, I had to know how it was going to turn out for her.

The world that was created was interesting, but not too focused on, the religious aspect of what the Godstone is all about was really original and brought Elisa’s character to life.  Overall I enjoyed the uniqueness story of the Godstone and bearers journey to discover what she’s meant for.

RECOMMENDATION:
This is a young adult fantasy novel recommended for fans of author Tamora Pierce and Veronica Roth.

  1. Ooh, this sounds like my kind of thing. I like the way you structure your reviews, especially saying where you got the book from - I might steal that idea if you don't mind!

  2. I brought this home in a pile of books from the library last week, so it's good to read your review of it before I start the book. Thanks!
