{Interview & Giveaway} with Becca Ritchie for Wynter Chelsea

I'm happy to be the first stop in the Wynter Chelsea Tour for author Becca Ritchie, apart of The Teen Book Scene Tours.  I was happy to interview her about her YA series and also will be giving away a paperback copy to one lucky reader!

Wynter Chelsea: The Legacy
SNR:  Can you tell us a little bit in your own words about Wynter Chelsea?

BR: Wynter Chelsea is about two families, the Wynters and the Chelseas, who protect lives by hunting the supernatural. Amanda Chelsea is the first girl born into either family, and she is consequently left out of the legacy of hunters. After her parents mysteriously disappear, she joins her older brother and the two Wynter boys in a dangerous search all across the United States. Family drama crops up, which undoubtedly happens when you’re crammed in a car for long periods of time with siblings and next door neighbors. And there’s also a “little” romance between two best friends, Dustin Wynter and Amanda Chelsea.

SNR: What type of research did you have to do for this type of storyline or what
inspired you?

BR: I initially wrote Wynter Chelsea when I was 14, and I decided to incorporate demonology and my own imagination into the structure of the book. All the demons come from demonology, but I added in half demons, shape shifting creatures, and unexplainable supernatural beings so I wouldn’t scare myself to death.

SNR: Do you have any interesting quirks when writing? Ex. Listening to certain
music for inspiration, watching television, writing outside, etc.

BR: Listening to music. I’ll pick a song and put it on repeat for 4-8 hours at a time. If I switch it on shuffle, sometimes the tone of my writing shifts with the songs, so I learned that the repeat button is my friend.

SNR:  What was your favorite experience in writing this book?

BR: Being so young and having zero expectations while writing it. I had no intention to publish the book. So it was purely for my entertainment and my twin sister’s. She would sit beside me and poke my shoulder, urging me to write faster so she could read more of the story I built. I don’t think I’ll ever experience that again.

SNR: Who are some of your favorite writers?

BR: Oh my gosh. This is hard. I like so many! Currently, I adore Stephanie Perkins who wrote Anna and the French Kiss. I’m an urban fantasy junkie, and for her to make me fall in love with YA contemporary is a testament to how brilliant she is. Also Lena Coakley, Richelle Mead, and Rachel Caine have an incredibly addicting writing style. I could name a hundred more, but those are just some that immediately come to mind.

SNR: If you could be any one of your characters who would it be and why?

BR: Probably Trevor Wynter. He is scrawny, unassuming, and cracks by far the most jokes—some questionably corny. I think I subconsciously modeled Trevor around Peter Parker from Spider-Man with the idea that the weakest and least appealing boy on the playground can be the absolute strongest. Trevor is by far the best fighter in the legacy. And his obsession with comic books, superheroes, and video games mirrors mine. Also having precognition would be pretty cool.

SNR:  Can you tell us what you’re working on next?

BR: I am currently finishing up the third book in the Wynter Chelsea series. The second book, Wynter Chelsea: The Sublimity, is already available in paperback, kindle, and e-book.

Thanks for having me on your blog, Kristen!

SNR: Thank you for visiting SNR Becca, I look forward to more of your series!
